I agree with everyone. You have no need to apologize to us for doing what is best for you. I dropped out of rush midway through myself, years ago, because I didn't feel comfortable at the houses I had left. I know you will find something to do that makes you happy.

Thank you Sierra for bringing this up..... At our campous, SDT is very diverse. My pledge sister is one of the many Catholics, and she is currently President, among other things. SHe never had an issue with anything. She was at convention in June (lukcy her!) and there weren o issuses.

Our Delta Delta chapter and our Beta Xi chapters have more non-Jews then Jews. There shouldn't be an issue with it, check ouot SDT.

As for everything elose. I'm sorry you didn't get what you want, but you seem to have the right idea, and any soroirity would be lucky to have you

One of the young women that will be advising the SDT colony is an SDT from Miami and she's a grad student here at FSU. She is not Jewish. I know the colony is looking to be very diverse.

It doesn't cost you anything to check it out, lol, and I would recommend that you do so. It's a great opportunity for you.

And yes, there will be housing available in the future. That is something their national office will be working on once the colony is up and running.

i can tell you that we had several jewish girls in my chapter at fsu when i was there, and they never complained about being members of a sorority that was founded by christian women. if they had a religious holiday to observe and we had a mandatory event, they were excused from that event. barb herself is jewish and a member of zta, and i would hope that she has never been made to feel out of place or uncomfortable, and i would have to believe that sigma delta tau is like that too. like barb said, it doesn't cost anything to look!

I was a charter member of our ADPi chapter/ colony. The one difference for us though is that we were an already established local sorority joining the international org all together. I know in a colony, a lot of emphasis is placed on finding all the new sisters. Once they have all been recruited, then everyone is in the same boat. You all must learn about your new GLO to promote it to others on campus. You will have a national officer (or two or three) available to teach you anything and everything about your new organization, in this case, SDT. Every new sister will be learning the history, songs, and ritual together and establishing your own traditions.
As a colony member, you have the power to shape the future of the chapter, within the boundaries of whatever GLO it is. It is an awesome experience!

Seriously - SDT was founded as a result of the exclusionary practices (at the time) of the other sororities. They are historically inclusive and would never pressure you to give up any of your beliefs.

I love the fact that I am a founding member of my chapter....we really didnt have to do that much hard work because our chapter consultants had everything pretty much drawn out for us. DZ has great nationals and thats part of the reason it wasnt so much hard work. If you have any questions PM me.

Once upon a time Greek houses were very exclusionary. Several fraternities and sororities were founded to combat the exclusionary clauses. Today, those clauses are no longer in existence. I am Jewish. At San Diego State, the AEPhi house closed the semester before I started school. There were no Jewish houses on campus at the time I went through rush. I pledged KD, a Christian founded house and only had problems with one sister who pledged after I had been in the house for a while. I shared my traditions with my sisters. Today I am the President of my Alumnae Association. In our particular association, I am the only Jew. No one cares about the religious difference. My feeling is go check out Sigma Delta Tau. If they offer what you want, join, be active and have a great time!

cosign! I'm also Jewish and have never had any problems, so I'm sure it works the other way around! Give SDT a try!

But I agree with the rest of the ladies that you should explore the option of SDT. Go check out the National website.
Ask questions at the information sessions.

The only time we regret opportunities is when we didn't take the chance to use them.

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out for you with formal recruitment.

Do look into the SDT colonization, though. I too am a chapter founder, and while it is a lot of work to get a new chapter off the ground, it is so rewarding!

I am sorry to hear that recruitment didn't work out for you.

Definitely give SDT a chance! It could be the home that you were looking for. My alma mater, Stony Brook University, has a chapter of SDT and they are a very diverse group of women. You never know unless you try!
