I posted this in another Alabama Recruitment forum, but one of my rec girls went Pi Beta Phi!
I found out another PNM (didn't write her a rec be/c she had two already) dropped out of recruitment. She isn't bitter (she was a double legacy to one house and a legacy to another house). Her older sister and her mom had told her going into recruitment that because she had a lower GPA (around a 3.1) she might be released. So she did have a full pref party list but she felt that maybe it wasn't meant for her. But she's not bitter and her mother is optimistic for her. Two of her suitemates didn't rush (she's in a 4 person room) so she has friends to hang out with who aren't Greek. She is happy for her friends who did get bids. So, I'm glad she is at least okay and not totally devasted. When I spoke to her mom she told me that she was staying positive.

Bamamom, I am sorry it didn't work out for your daughter this year. In light of what everyone has said, I think that if she is interested in trying again next year, the most important thing she can do is study hard this year. College is so much different than high school, as you know, and this is her chance to get her affairs in order. It sounds like there are a lot of other great organizations at Bama, and I'm guessing a lot of sorority girls are involved in them too, so she can meet them that way. I think we sometimes forget that the reason we go to college is to learn, and sororities and things are called EXTRAcurricular for a reason. I know I did sometimes!

Just wondering:
Do Bama sororities usually have any COB/informal in the spring? I'd imagine that if they do, that the chapters don't typically have many openings. If they do, is it something that you'd have to know someone in the chapter to know they were having it?
I feel like Bama may be one of those schools where it's not openly publicized if there ARE COB events.

Historically for most Chapters, COBing is pretty rare at Bama. A few years ago Chapter Total was increased to 180 and that pushed several under Total. As I recall perhaps 6 ended up doing Spring COB that year. Even then Chapters were only able to take like 5-10 new members.
AFAIK and not counting SDT, all Chapters except 1 were still above Total last Spring. Normally with a quota of 72 Fr and 5 Up, most would be well above Total. However with the lousy economy I know everyone is facing a significant increase in the number of member resignations due to not being able to afford sorority life. So this year, who knows?

A lot of the groups are probably so far above total that they are never eligible to COB.
If a young women is interested in COB, she should probably talk to someone at the greek life.

Sorry for the short video, y'all. Leah and Becca are my daughters. They are both Tri Delts now. If I had my mind about me, I would have videoed the entire thing. I ran to the house after they came by.
