Ranking question

My daughter attends a midwest university. 11 houses on campus. After first rounds the girls rank the house 1-11 (1 being the fave). For second rounds they can return to a max of 6 houses.

So here's my question: My daughter got invited back to 4 houses (not bad!) She's totally upset. The reason - Of the 4 houses only 2 were in her top 6. The others barely on the register! One girl in her group told her that the university uses a computer and your choices mean nothing. I know that is incorrect.

So how is it she ended up with her number (say 9) choice of house? Would they have put her near the top of their list? Or did they have the space?

Help!

By the way I asked how the parties went and SUPRISE she does indeed like the houses that invited her back.... Now to see what happens at perf night.

Per the release figures system, each chapter can invite back a certain number of women. Every chapter has a system for determining who gets invited back (private). There are numerous reasons why her faves may have chosen not to invite her back while her lower ranked choices did. If you don't get invited back to your top ___ (however many), your schedule gets filled in with some of the lower ranked houses on your schedule that wanted you back (to give you as full of a schedule as possible).

I hope that this helps you understand better.

At the end of the day, no matter how many of your top ranked groups you get invited back to, you can only end up with one bid. So she should just go back to wherever she is invited.

The way it works is that every PNM has to attend the maximum amount of parties they can be invited to that day. So if you are released from more sororities than there are parties that day, you have to attend every sorority that invited you back regardless of how you ranked them. Let's say you rank A, B and C first for a three party day and rank D and E next (meaning you want to drop them) but A and C do not invite you back...therefore D and E bump back up to your list and you have to attend B, D and E. If only A had released you, and you still had B and C, you would have to attend D in addition to B and C and you would drop E. That's a terrible explanation, I know, but hopefully that helps explain it a little.

To put it briefly, a PNM's rankings only matter if she has been invited to more than the maximum number of chapters for the next round. So, if 8 chapters invited a PNM back, the computer would fill her schedule in order of her preference. If exactly the number for the next round or fewer chapters invite a PNM, no, the rankings don't matter.
