mothers controlling bidding

has anyone noticed that the mothers (alums, elders) are controlling the whole process now? If your daughter is not a legacy, she's almost completely out of luck. All of the legacy moms have friends in the houses during the entire rush week texting suggestions for the rushees, how to show their preferences, etc.

NO! I just recently worked during the entire week of rush at my daughter's school/chapter and I saw NOTHING like this. I was very impressed with the process and how clean it was at my daughter's school. Those of us working said nothing and did nothing other than help. Everything that happened there stayed there and with the girls who were conducting rush so that nothing interfered with how they proceeded. Not sure where you are but I would think it happening would be the minority, not the norm.

Alumnae don't control bidding. I don't know where you're from, but at any school I've heard of, the only people in charge of any sort of member selection are the active collegiate members.

Also, the non-legacy = no bid thing has been proven to be untrue even at the biggest southern schools. It is impossible for a chapter to take a entire class of legacies anyway.

I'm not sure where you're from, but I have neve heard of a chapter taking an entire class of legacies, so I think that's a bit of an exaggeration.

I hope that's not true! I would suppose that being a legacy is kind of a big deal, and those girls would be able to get more "insider" information - but at the end of the day doesn't it boil down to the daughter being a good PNM? I can see where being a legacy gets your foot in the door, but you still have to be able to carry your own. Waving around the legacy card might be very obnoxious to non-legacy collegiate members. But then again, I'm not really sure what every sororities policy is on legacies to know for certain.

When you've got schools in the SEC where chapter legacies number more than house total, what you're saying is impossible.

What school are you talking about or are you just spewing shit out of your ass?

The people on this site are from all schools, not just SEC. You are correct about the SEC, so many legacies. There would be know way to accomadate all.

I have not been on GC recently, but was your response really necessary ?
Some people come to this site (as I did myself) and have to learn from mistakes that they say. The posters that help us give constructive advice, not put us down. My best piece of advice was in a pm that made me realize that I was being a "helicopter" parent. I appreciated the advice that took a positive spin. A far cry from what I got in the open forum.

Please read before you post something like this. You will find many a person on GC grumbling b/c their legacy was cut.

1. So not true ... don't know what school you're refering to but legacies are just PNMs too with similar chances of finding the right fit.

2. If this were somehow true, how would you know unless you were in the selection session of every chapter of said school? Buck up and don't start such bitter rumors.

Very true.

The Bama and Auburn threads are full of moms who are wondering why their legacy daughter was cut from their own sorority. Hence why we know that being a legacy doesn't guarantee any girl a bid.
