Family Names?

I just recently finished my pledging period for my fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, and am really excited to be a new member of a Greek family. At my university, there is a tradition that each family in an organization have a "family name." However my family has no name and I've been trying to come up with one. Does anyone here have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. My fraternity already has family names like Dynasty, Godfather, Mafia, and Scarface.

Thanks!

No offense, but you really think complete strangers on an Internet site know you, your family AND your organization well enough to give you ideas on a name that (should) hold some semblance of a meaning to its members???

Wow, I was just looking for ideas. I'm pretty sure it's not necessarily supposed to be indicative of the members of the family, considering that there are names like Dynasty, Godfather, or Mafia. It's just supposed to be a cool name for a cool family.

Different things have different meanings to certain organizations. I would appreciate it if you held some respect towards my organization and understand that, while I'm new, I do know enough about my organization to know that it's appropriate to ask for ideas. I believe that we should act with class on this website and part of being Greek is being a considerate member of the Greek Community. Maybe you should work on that.

Family Name Sugestions

Well, for those who don't know, Kvitne and I have been dating for almost two years and I have known about his search for a family name for a while. I have come up with some suggestions. Feel free to add more!
1. Blues Brothers Family
2. VIP Family
3. Power House Family
4. Dark Knight Family
5. The Mason Family
6. The Templar Family
7. The Alpha Family
8. The Simpson Family/Dynasty
9. The Rockstar Family

Sooo . . . if I point out that she has a point, I'm being disrespectful to all of Pi Kappa Phi?

It sounds like your girlfriend has a clear handle on some ideas - and she would be in a postion to know what you and your group might consider "cool". If you wish to pick our brains for additional ideas, you might let us know why the offered ones are not acceptable.

Or you could go to Happy Pony Rainbow Land.

If you already have a "mob" theme going (it seems like your chapter does) then some obvious suggestions would be Soprano, Corleone, Capone, Gotti, etc.

Thank you APhiAnna, those are some awesome suggestions!

There's nothing wrong with my SCogs18's ideas. It's just that I have a rather large family and I want to be able to bring as many suggestions to the table as possible so that we can all decide on one that everyone likes.

I personally think you should name yourselves

"THE UNCREATIVE FAMILY"

Or if that doesn't work at least pick a different kind of movie. "The American Psychos" sounds pretty BA I think.

Either that or act like a real fraternity and realize that you should be cool enough that you don't need a name from a movie to make you seem cool and tuff.

Really guys? Let's keep this kind. All this guys asked was for some friendly input on family names. Harassment and name calling is totally uncalled for. If you don't have legitimate suggestions for a family name take your posts elsewhere.

I gave one legitimate suggestion. American Psycho is a fratastic movie, way more so than the Godfather or especially that garbage movie Scarface.

But in addition to that, I offered the criticism that naming families (particularly after movies) is 1) something sororities do, not fraternities and 2) pretty dumb even then IMO.

Happy Pony Rainbow Land Alert!

Or, here's an idea - if you don't like the tone of this site, Mr. Just Joined And Has 9 Posts, feel free to go to the land of fluffy clouds and bright rainbows. If we feel your post is ridiculous, you'll get called on it.

And I'm not a guy.

eta - Did I just make a snarky post???!!!

First off, at our university, it is very common, in fact, expected that fraternity and sorority families have names.

Second of all, get off your high horse, what difference does it make if I have a low number of posts? If that is really what matters it's pitiful. I may not post often, but I have been Greek for years, get over yourself.

Sweets, I would like to know how much you think you're going to make GC change by giving out behavioral lectures. Just FYI, you're just giving more fuel to the fire. But by all means keep going, because I'm sure plenty of us find it entertaining at your [and your boyfriend's] expense.
