Updates on me

Okay, I have so much to tell you guys.

First, I was able to go see a counselor about a couple of weeks ago to help with my self esteem issue. I'm doing the right thing. The good news is that I'm getting better.

Also, I will start attending SAC meeting starting tommorrow. I will be on the University Traditions committee. I wanted to do Special Events as well but they and UT will meet almost at the same time. So, I'll have to go with UT at this time.

I will be joining the Anime Club 101 starting next month. I wanted to start joining tonight, but I had to work. (On a side note, this will be my last week working at my current job. Things are not working out the way I planned. I will be looking for another job on campus.)

Also, I'm doing pretty well in my studies. I hope to make Dean's List this semester.

As far as the sororities are concerned, I've sent messages on facebook to some of the chapters about COB opportunities and I've only heard back from one of them as far as COB opportunities are concerned. My roommate is in a sorority and she said that hers is full. However, she will let me know when there would be opportunities.

Joining a sorority is not my priority right now. My priority is to make very good grades. I would like to get in a very good business school so I can get my MBA in the future. (On a another side note, I've attended one of the sororities fashion show last week and I have enjoyed it. And one of the girls who participated in was a new member and she lives on my floor in my dorm. I gave her some compliments as well as the girl in one of my classes who talked to me during the parties during recruitment. I had to go to it because I need to go to a fashion show for a report for one of my classes. Even if it weren't for a report, I would still have attended it. I wasn't going to be a bad sport.)

That's all for now.

Sounds like you have your priorities in order. I'm so glad you are working with a counselor, focusing your your grades, and getting involved in healthy ways. Good luck if you continue to pursue sorority membership, and best to you if not!

I am so glad that you have a good attitude about everything. I know one girl who switched schools just because she didn't get into a sorority! I'm very happy that you have found things to get involved with on campus. Good luck with everything!

I have sent two girls in two different sororities messages about COB opportunities. And I have not heard from them. Okay, with one of them I've got a response and she said that she would pass my info to the person who is in charge of COB. I have not heard from her and it has been a month. I don't want to send another message because I don't want to get too pushy. I should have got a response one way or another. Maybe I have to wait next semester. This will be my last semester trying to get into a sorority. The reason why I'm not giving up is because my heart has the strength to make me keep going. I also believe that God has helped me put things in my heart.

this late in the semester, it is most likely that neither sorority is holding cob events. give them a week or two into spring semester before you start worrying that you might have missed out on spring cob parties. keep your eyes and ears open-they may put up flyers about cob events, or you might learn about one word of mouth.

do you know any other girls who are interested in attending cob events? maybe you could sort of band together and keep each other informed(and lend each other moral support)

I know my school is having a winter informal and they haven't started advertising yet. I have some friends in various chapters that gave me a heads up the day they found out, but most girls on campus don't know about it.

When informal events get closer, you're more likely to hear about it. I wouldn't keep pressing the issue with various members in the chapter or you will start to appear kind of creepy. I think the best thing you can do is to stay in touch with the greek life office, maintain the connections you've made, build your social circle, and stay involved. If the events occur, you will hear about them!

Also, I don't think you're being very fair to yourself by saying if you don't get another opportunity soon, you won't do it at all. I can completely understand your reasoning, but if there isn't another recruitment event until formal- how is it your fault? Ya know? I don't think you should give up just because the opportunity for COB or informal may not be there! Besides, if you do have to wait until formal again, that gives you the rest of the school year to build up a great GPA, get involved, and meet people.

Okay, I've emailed three sororities. I've heard from two of them. One of them is not doing COB this semester. However, one of them is doing it this semester towards the end of the month. The third one, I've send one message to them a few days before Christmas and they didn't respond back to me. I should have waited until later. Should I send them one more message to them?

Soliloquy, I don't know if you are still there, but I've read your post about informal recruitment and I want to say that I'm sorry about your situation. My heart breaks for you. I'm hoping for the best for you in the near future.

I've read a post about a girl changing schools just because she didn't get a bid. What good does that do? It's like putting a huge wound on a band-aid. If a person changes schools to be close to her family, then it's understandable, IMPO.

So you've got one for-sure chapter that you will be visiting at the end of the month? Fingers crossed - hope it goes well for you.

Howdy,

Here's my story now. I'm in a complex situation right now. I may not go through recruitment again, as much as it pains my heart. On the other hand, I would like to go through recruitment again, as crazy as it may sound. I have a heart to keep on fighting. But, as of right now, it's more likely that I may not participate in recruitment again, as much as I want it.

However, I will have a long time to think about it. But I will try not to let it consume me all summer long and now, even.

I'm probably going to get into trouble with you guys for what I'm about to say because I'm not in a sorority, but after I have seen what Greek life is all about with their presentations and stuff, there is no substitute for Greek life. I have joined clubs, but still...

Anyway, whether I decide to do it again or not, I wanted to say thank you.

You can't get in trouble for a compliment.

Best of luck to you.

The thing is, after a PNM is unsuccessful at recruitment, and if her outlook seems bleak for next time, the best we GCers can do is to encourage the woman to join clubs and at least try to enjoy the rest of her time at college.

I'd agree with you that there is no substitute for Greek life, at least for me. I can't imagine my life without it. However, it doesn't mean that another college student can't have a great college experience without it. Does that make sense?

Enjoy the rest of college, regardless of whether you go Greek or not.
