McClellan whacks Bush, White House

Timing of this book is rather interesting-first time one of Bush's insiders has written something rather poorly of him.
"Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan writes in a surprisingly scathing memoir to be published next week that President Bush “veered terribly off course,” was not “open and forthright on Iraq,” and took a “permanent campaign approach” to governing at the expense of candor and competence."
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0508/10649.html

"PHOENIX — President Bush “convinces himself to believe what suits his needs at the moment,” and has engaged in “self-deception” to justify his political ends, Scott McClellan, the former White House press secretary, writes in a critical new memoir about his years in the West Wing.
In addition, Mr. McClellan writes, the decision to invade Iraq was a “serious strategic blunder,” and yet, in his view, it was not the biggest mistake the Bush White House made. That, he says, was “a decision to turn away from candor and honesty when those qualities were most needed.”

"WASHINGTON -- The White House took part in an "endless effort to manipulate public opinion to their advantage" in promoting the invasion of Iraq, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan declares in a new book.
Mr. McClellan says that he "unknowingly passed along false information" in his press briefings, including strong denials from Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby that they had no role in the outing of Central Intelligence Agency spy Valerie Plame.
He also claims that Messrs. Rove and Libby, who rarely spent time together, held a secret meeting behind closed doors as speculation mounted that they had conspired to reveal Ms. Plame's identity.

I am unaware of any bad blood between McClellan and Bush (to include his administration), as is most of the MSM, which makes these firsthand accounts completely ... it's "good" in a way (for lack of a better term) to know all the things I had been thinking have been justified by a right-wing insider. On the other hand, it makes me wholeheartedly sad at the state of affairs and what could have been, and could have been avoided. I'm so ordering this book.

I may be mixing people up, but didn't he make some critical comments very soon after he left? If so, it's not much of a surprise that he's so critical in the book.

That, and I'm sure it doesn't hurt the book sales.

Yeah, "Bush is a really good President" probably wouldn't sell overly well right now.

I always liked McClellan! I can understand why he would be ticked at the Bush administration. He was told things that weren't true that he thought were, went out in front of the American public and announced that they were true and put his creditability on the line! I would be pissed too!
I can't wait to read the book!

Condoleeza said that the things werent true. WHATEVER... McClellan is acting like any other disgruntled employee and telling everything he knows. admit it, we've all done it. but in this case, i doubt he's telling anything that cant be backed up, it will just confirm what a suck-a** prez is in office.

i love how the White House is "puzzled" and "confused" instead of red hot and angry. makes me think he is dead on an 100% accurate.
