Organized everyday events

In my chapter we have a problem. We don't really have to many opportunities for the entire brotherhood to get together on a regular basis and do something. We have many small "cliques" that hang out regularly and do their own things, but these groups rarely interact outside of casual conversation. We all get along pretty well, its just that people have different interests and tend to do their own thing. This sort of hurts us during recruitment because pnms will wander up to the house to see if anything is going on, walk into our largely empty courtyard and leave without going upstairs (where all the rooms are).

I want to try and setup a series of scheduled events that occur on the same day each week, so everyone can get involved and have fun. Basically, I want to create reasons for brothers to do things together, doubling as reasons to invite pnms up to the house. Some of my ideas are:

- Dodgeball
- Basketball pickup games (install a hoop in the courtyard)
- Ultimate Frisbee on front lawn
- Frisbee golf around campus

Here is a few pictures of the downstairs part of the house that this would mostly be happening in:

Yeah, that was another I forgot to put on the list. One problem with poker nights in the past though is the time commitment generally required for a big game.

That picture doesn't even show the whole room, theres a raised platform right behind the couches you see with another set of em.

One problem with Movie night as a regular thing is that its difficult to find films that enough people want to watch without resorting to making a drinking game out of it.

instead of a movie night it could be a tv show instead that a lot of people like, that way it's informal and not to much time. also a way to get a lot of brothers to come may be to get food? and on that note you could have a house dinner night and get steaks or grill out and do something different every week

Sometimes the conflict with solving problems lies in the fact that you may be trying to solve the wrong problem. A great deal of time is spent on trying to patch these minor spin offs of the real problem.

Example) When finals are coming up and an individual is trying to cram, the person says, "I can't believe they are testing me on all the material from the semester." When the problem wasn't that the professor was being difficult (hopefully) but that the student should have studied a little bit all semester in order to reduce the cramming.

Realize that it may not be events to draw your fraternity brothers close but maybe the problem lies in the pledge program and creating a love for Sigma Nu and for your university at an early time. Something that could work is what Fresno State has done and that is to be very creative with the LEAD program. For instance, for the relaxation lesson the fraternity paired with a sorority and did yoga! Doing things like that can really get a guy involved again and rejuvenate the spirit.
