Anyone have any adivce for a n00bie? I still haven't gotten to play but that will all change tomorrow. Kinda. I'm playing a friends charcter tomorrow b/c he got stuck working so they don't have to play without his, I got hte basic gist of his charcter and I like the roup he plays with, but I'm nervous as hell.

Believe it or not, I have never played it. Unless you count playing a D and D computer game at a friend's house once. Or watching the animated TV series back in the 80s.

I played a great deal "back in the day" . . . my only advice would be to be conservative. You don't want to be responsible for killing your friend's character! So hide behind lots of rocks and trees!

I tried to play in college.. my boyfriend was "teaching" me how to play. Thing is, he'd do stuff to kill off my character almost as soon as we'd get started so it made it hard to learn. Competitive jerk.

One of the webcomics (Penny-Arcade) that I read has been mentioning D&D in their news posts recently.
Here's the link http://www.penny-arcade.com/2008/5/30/ from the first day. Just work your way forward. Some of it seems pretty interesting. They even do a pod cast of game.

I used to love the Find your own adventure books!
My friend wound up getting off of work early so I barely got to play. Not fair.

I loved the Choose Your Own Adventure books and still recommend them to customers at the library. But for some reason the D and D games never caught my attention.

My mom had banned D&D from our house for those reasons, not that my brother or I ever had any desire to play that game. I think it all stemmed from a real life kidnapping/murder that happened in the late '80s by some teens that were obsessed with D&D.
