Beta and Sorority Pairings
How is your chapter paired with a sorority for large Greek events? Or even for Rush support?
Is by a lottery? Long standing (historically as been with AXO) pairing? Other methode?
Who are you paired with?
Are there "fights" or bidding wars for any of the pairings?

Nope
Not here at John Carroll... Every sorority wants to pair with us for something. (Not that we're complaining)
Not sure if a pairing will develop- with Beta having been on campus for only a semester, there's a long time ahead to form one

Really just kind of varies - some things like homecoming and greek week are lottery systems determined by Greek Affairs. Other things like football tailgating (since they got rid of assigned block seating this year...boo) are a combination of who we want to do it with and who wants to do it with us, as well as how recently we were with that sorority.
Rush support and who we're most likely to just be hanging out with at the time always is in a state of flux. We used to hang out a lot with ChiO's because we had a bunch of guys from Lincoln and ChiO had a lot of girls from Lincoln and they all were friends together. Things like that and who has a sister in this house or that house make a difference too. Can't think of any historical connections that exist.

Same here BigRedBeta- while we mixed with a variety of sororities, having lots of individual personal connections via relatives or boyfriend/girlfriend relationships generally meant we would mix with that sorority with some frequency.
I will be interested to hear more about this matching for Greek Weeks and the like since at the big Southern schools we really don't do this kind of thing too much. Most social events tend to be planned between chapters- and there are few, if any, centrally organized events where all Greeks participate.
It has been tried, but it does not usually work. I think part of that is because at a really big state school the Greeks cover a very diverse range of people and it is not easy to get them all on the same page for anything.
Rush support is tricky- usually just sorority women we knew personally and at times outside of Panhellenic formal rush. During formal sorority rush the rules were incredibly strict. Panhellenic rushees and any actives involved in the rush process were not even supposed to talk to guys in fraternities, and any kind of social events during their formal rush period were absolutely forbidden. As that overlaps with fraternity rush, any rush support usually happens in the summer and then on an individual basis.

Same at my school. Generally paired up with whatever sorority we are hanging out the most with that semester.
For a few years my chapter was the only one on campus that would put in an effort to 'win' Homecoming or Greek Week or whatever. During that time we pretty much had our pick of sororities to be paired with. It was a much bigger deal for them to win than for us. If I remember, it helped put them in a better light with their Nationals or something. Of course, we generally choose the sorority that we had the most fun with....and had hot girls. Can't forget about the superficialness that underscored just about every decision we made. Haha.

Homecoming is a big deal for us at Nebraska (one of the guys who was most outspoken about morals and ethical behavior while in the house even got caught up in stealing other houses' event sign in sheets to help us win one year). Because of numbers of chapters the sororities are kind of at advantage. But because of our participation over the years, we're definitely considered a first tier chapter in that regard so that we'll be paired with a sorority for sure and only have a much smaller fraternity join us (usually an MCGLO group, who are historically sketchy about participation). Lucky for us when we were rebuilding, our lawn is perfect for lawn displays so even when we were smaller, we had an advantage for our guys to get a solid pairing. There are a lot of older guys who point to us winning HC in '99 as our announcement to campus that we were back.
Yeah, absolutely agree with the superficialness. Every year for the past 6 or so, one sorority who shall remain nameless to protect the obese, has called our chapter within days of transitioning new officers in an attempt to secure a football block partnership for the following season. It's become a standard chapter joke that the new social chair's first official duty is managing to dodge that request.

Groups aren't paired together here, they usually just do thing with whomever approaches them.
