Alpha Xi Delta is Returning to Illinois!!
From the Alpha Xi Delta Website:
5/1/2007 - Alpha Xi Delta Invited to Re-colonize Kappa Chapter
Indianapolis, IN – The National Council of Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity proudly announced today that the Fraternity received an invitation to re-colonize its Kappa Chapter at the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign. In rejoining the Illinois Greek community, Alpha Xi Delta will once again be a part of the nation’s largest Greek community that includes 19 other National Panhellenic Conference groups.
“Alpha Xi Delta has dreamt of re-colonizing our Kappa Chapter at the University of Illinois for some time and we are thrilled to have received the invitation to once again be a part of the Illinois Greek community,” said Deborah Fenwick Maas, National President of Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity.
Alpha Xi Delta volunteers and staff will conduct the colonization recruitment beginning in fall 2008. A campus public relations campaign to generate excitement and interest in Alpha Xi Delta will commence in fall 2007.
“We are grateful to the Illinois Panhellenic Council for extending us this invitation and are inspired by the opportunity to share Alpha Xi Delta and all she has to offer with generations of women to come at the University of Illinois,” added Maas.
Alpha Xi Delta first installed its Kappa Chapter at the University of Illinois in 1905. The chapter became dormant in 1995.
Founded in 1893 at Lombard College, now Knox College, in Galesburg, Illinois, Alpha Xi Delta inspires women to realize their potential by providing opportunities for sisterhood, leadership, knowledge and service. The national women’s fraternity has over 142,000 initiated members and has chapters on 112 college campuses. For more information on Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity, visit www.alphaxidelta.org.

Hey guys... I know that we have maintained a house at Illinois but I was just wondering if anyone had the specs/ details of this house in comparison to others on campus? Location, size, upkeep? I know I could probably figure out things like location easily, but anyone who knows the campus could probably explain it much more simply. I also know that a house isn't everything, but with so many groups and houses, it will be a very important feature of returning and remaining competitive.
Also, an interesting point to note, that while doing a little research about the house, found that it is listed on the National Register of Historical places. Doing a little more snooping, I found what I think to be a picture of it.
Can anyone confirm?

We did not retain our house there...
... but we retained the sale proceeds!! Our National Housing Corporation is currently working to acquire a house that is closer to campus, safe, secure and a suitable home away from home for our new members to be.
Kappa chapter's former home (it looks like you've got the right one in the photo) is now is currently occupied by a Catholic men's fraternity. It is located at corner of Michigan & Busey in Urbana. A beautiful house and filled with many Alpha Xi Delta memories, but a little off from the beaten path.

Off the beaten path ... for over 80 years
715 W. Michigan Avenue..."a little off the beaten" path. That's true, and one of the reasons I pledged Alpha Xi Delta at the University of Illinois...the house was/is one of the most beautiful and historic homes in Urbana. For almost 80 years, Kappa sisters called this their home. I have many fond memories of walking to and from classes from the southeast part of campus, including watching the seasons change as I cut through Illini Grove and walking up one of the few remaining brick streets in Urbana to the home that provided so much friendship and opportunities in a safe environment while I was at the U. of I.
I look forward to Kappa's recolonization so other sisters may experience our Founders vision of realizing their potential, pursuing dreams and developing life-long friendships. I encourage all to take that same walk to experience what we enjoyed for so many years, especially as we lay the foundation for the next 80 years and beyond.

I heard that the other sororities at UIUC are really helping out AXiD to get them ready for formal recruitment in the fall and whatnot, and they're being really welcoming, which is pretty awesome

Alpha Xi Delta to Sponsor Panhellenic Pride Week Speaker at Illinois
Indianapolis - Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity announced today it will proudly sponsor the keynote presenter during the University of Illinois' Panhellenic Pride Week. Ginny Carroll, a well-known presenter in the Greek community and an Alpha Xi Delta, will present "The Gift of Sorority" on February 11 to members of the Illinois Panhellenic community.
The "Gift of Sorority" will urge participants to rethink and appreciate their sorority experience. Additionally, participants will gain awareness of all the benefits of being a lifelong, involved member of a sorority, including how to market sorority membership to potential members and potential employers.
"College is the opportunity for young people to build intellect and expertise in a chosen field," said Carroll. "Being a member of a sorority provides the opportunity to cultivate the skills necessary for success outside of intellect - the skills that employers are seeking, now more than ever, when hiring young people out of college."
Ginny Carroll is principal/CEO of inGiNuity, a consultancy known for its inspirational, creative approach. The focus of her programs and keynotes include leadership development, intergenerational communication, and emotional intelligence. Prior to her work with inGiNuity, Ginny spent 15 years working at Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity Headquarters, five of those as the Executive Director. Her client list includes the Indiana Society of Association Executives, the Lumina Foundation, Eli Lilly, the Indiana Black Expo, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Washington University and more than a dozen national fraternal organizations.
In fall 2008, Alpha Xi Delta will recolonize its Kappa Chapter on the Illinois campus.

Even though the Beta Eta chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Maryland closed in the 1992-1993 school year, Alpha Xi Delta has continued to maintain the house. I think Pi Kappa Alpha lived there for a year or two before moving onto the row, but in recent years, the AXiD house has housed transfer women and sorority overflow. Now, ADPi and DG's exec boards live there while their houses are being renovated. There will be more renovations for the next two school years, and presumably chapters' exec boards living there. However, when the renovations are done in two years, and if membership trends at Maryland continue...let's just say that AXiD might be REALLY glad they held on to their house.

I would like to say that Illinois has had a chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Monmouth College since recolonization in 1997... BETA EPSILON!!! So, it is not that Alpha Xi Delta is returning to Illinois, it is that ANOTHER chapter is returning to Illinois!
