I think some girls do take it really serious.. Look at the major prom queen competitions.. but this show actually looks more fun that that.... and it looks like they are going to give them some interesting competitions:

This looks like they are given more freedom to be "creative" with their dresses than your high school prom:

I saw the show last night. I'm glad that all of the girls are not stick figures. But, I don't get some of the dresses. I like Carmen, but that dress is a nightmare. Toree's dress looks like something from the 1980s.

Ok, so i'm not sure if it was at MY high school or if these girls were just lying up their asses, but Prom Queen was only allowed to be a senior. But some of these girls claimed they had been nominated for Prom Queens as sophomores & juniors. Exsqueeze me? Sophomores were BARELY allowed at prom, forget them being nominated for anything.

My initial impressions:

Carmen---ummmm sorry...a snow white costume does NOT constitute a prom dress.

Macy---Wasn't being Miss Tennessee Teen enough?

Kendra---fake bake much?

Ashley---so exactly how many prom movies are there?

Katelyn---She's probably my favorite or one of my favroties. I actually felt bad for her. I don't think she purposefully meant to leave her partner, but I think she fell under the time pressure.

At my school, only juniors and seniors were allowed to go to prom... unless there was an underclassman that was invited to prom by a junior/senior as their +1.

I didn't see the show, but I did see the initial YouTube link... and Miss Tennessee's quote cracked me up: "I would love knowing that people loved me..."

huh?

Does her family not love her?

So who do you think is going to win it ??? I think they got a well-rounded group of girls .... The girls all seem different from each other and its good to see different types of girls represented not just your typical "prom queen" It does look like there will be some fighting among them later in the season .. Can't wait!

Is being 'Prom Queen' a big thing when all of you guys were in High School? I've always wondered about this facination because I know when I was a senior I don't even remember nominating or voting for Prom Queen. I remember one of my friends became Prom Queen but I just thought it was a random selection. Being Prom Queen wasn't a big thing, it was Homecoming Queen that everyone wanted to be.

So I guess I don't understand the facination with being prom queen.

But I have to disagree with dzfan. I think the majority of the girls are very similar--at least from just seeing the first episode. I think that Niah, Carmen and maybe Katelyn are the ones that are 'different' and I feel the other girls are all very similar.

We didn't even have a prom queen. Well, technically, we had Junior Prom and Senior Ball...same idea, though. We had a homecoming court, but it never seemed like a big deal to be on it. Maybe I just wasn't in the crowd that cared? Haha I don't know. It seems like such a big deal in TV and movies, but I honestly never knew/cared who had won until I saw the yearbook in June.

They also weren't even presented at the dance. I think they just did something at the Homecoming game. Weird weird weird.

lol...that kinda sounds like my high school. But the prom queen was never mentioned in the yearbook or anywhere else. The prom queen was seriously mentioned 5 minutes before the dance ended and it was just a quick run through.

I imagine it might be difficult to put a prom queen in a year book because the deadline is usually months before a school would ever get around to voting for her.

I don't even remember if we had a prom queen but I feel like its something that is considered part of American culture.. Its something you grow up seeing on television and in the movies but my high school was weird .. I wish we had had one though!! It seems like it would be fun and entertaining....

I still think the girls were diverse they were from different locations, races, etc.. Maybe they weren't all totally different but I think ABC Family tried to get different girls instead of sticking to the same thing over and over
