what one thing made you realize what sisterhood/brotherhood was all about?
for me it would be when a sister lost a lot of family members in Sri Lanka after the tsunami...she wanted to send donations back to Sri Lanka to help the efforts...we set up a table and started asking for donations and ended up having over 1500 dollars donated!!
and then there's the one where a sister's mother passed away and a lot of sisters drove the three hours to go to her calling hours and funeral so they could support the sister
what about you guys??

My grandmother passed my junior year in college. I was raised by my grandparents, so it was equivalent to losing my mother.
It was so unexpected, and I was totally out of it when I found out. Was like a zombie. My line sisters came and did my laundry and packed my things, arranged a flight for me to go home for the funeral. My neo came and stayed with me that night to make sure I was okay. I know I wouldn't have made it without them. I feel my Sorors and my sisterhood are wonderful, and there are always things that constantly reinforce this sentiment.

During some personal drama I had a few years ago, I had sisters making sure I was never alone & kept me busy & cheered me up. Great bunch of gals!

There were quite a few times when I was a collegiate when sisters were there for me when I needed it.
One that really comes to mind for me is when we went to CSU Bakersfield for Division Conference. We drove up from LA the night before and stopped at a convenience store for a quick bite to eat. Little did I know that the Hot Dog I got was going to give me food poisioning.
Right as the conference started I became really ill. I knew something was completely wrong with me since I had never ever been like that before. Sisters i didn't even know volunteered to drive me to the local hospital with no thought that I couldn't stop vomiting. I had one of my chapter sisters, Ana, drive me to the hospital instead and told everyone else to go ahead and try to enjoy themselves. I was at the hospital for quite a while with Ana sitting with me. Every so often the others would call or come by. Finally after being given meds Ana drove me on the long trip back to LA. For the next week or so I got calls from sisters checking on me and seeing if i needed anything, not only sisters from my chapter but sisters i didn't know from the other chapters.
That touched me a lot and just reinforced the happiness I felt in joining Phi Sigma Sigma.

The morning of the first day of formal recruitment last year I found out my grandfather (whom i was very very close with) was choosing to stop his dialysis treatments after suffering a major stroke the day before. I found out at setup and had a complete breakdown. My sisters were so supportive of me and helped me with everything. They drove me home and helped me pack so I could go spend the last few days with him and my family.
At the same time, my stepfather had had major lung surgery and was not recooperating well. Two days after my grandfather's funeral, my stepfather was put in an induced coma and placed on life support. He passed away a few days later.
This was by far the hardest time in my life and I don't know how I would have survived without the constant support of my sisters. Everyone of them was there for me, sent me notes and phone calls, even the girls that I didn't really know that well.
There support showed how amazing our Tri Delta sisterhood is, and I am so proud to call these women my sisters.

Years ago as the single parent of a toddler, I lost my job. My sorors surprised me at the next chapter meeting with food and money galore.

Mine was during my Pre-I. My whole NM class went to the outdoor stage that is outside of the student union. We all sat outside and talked for about two hours. We all said what we wanted to get out of being sister and want we all expected out of all of us. After our talk we drew our letters really big cover the whole stage and also writing sisterhood under the letters and each of us signing or putting our initials around our letters.

Two particular sisters were at my wedding. Twenty-five years to the week later, same church, they were at my daughter's wedding!

My daddy died suddenly in the middle of the summer. It was in all the papers, as he had held a political position, yet we were zombies, and didn't really recognize many of the people who came to the funeral home. Then one of my sisters showed up... and another... and another... and it just snowballed. Not only was I thrilled to see them show up and not just pay respects, but sit down & talked & hugged - but my whole family noticed. Those who weren't greek-savvy were terribly impressed and happy for me.
The other is mentioned here, post 53, the last one. It didn't become quite so meaningful until the divorce papers were served.

About this time last year... one of my good friends from high school passed away suddenly and it was very hard on me (especially since he was only a day older than me). I was not myself for over a week but I had my sisters with me all the time when I needed them more than ever.

When my uncle committed suicide and another friend of mine died all in the course of 4 days.
I will never forget getting a phone call from a a sister, literally turning around, and she and an other were there giving me a hug...sometimes words can't express what you are feeling and "I am sorry for your loss" doesn't help. Sometimes you just need a hug!
