Hello, my name is Sara and I'm a Phi Sig from Gannon University. I have begun planning a rock-a-thon for next spring and I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or ideas. Our chapter hasn't done one in years and I want to bring it back and make it a hit. I already plan to get the other organizations involved with the rocking chairs, and would love to have a concert concluding the marathon.
we just had our rock-a-thon, but in order to get some of the other sororities/fraternaties to participate you could do like a "coin wars" where they just put coins in a jar with their name on it and the winner gets a prize...and a way to get them to actually want to win would be by having a sweet prize..like we were going to have the prize be a date dash at a bar for the winning sorority or fraternity
And also, the PhiSigs here (Delta Kappa chapter) had a ton of free food, snacks, and RED BULL! Our campus is obsessed with Red Bull, so the food and red bull definitely kept a lot of people around.

Our Rock A Thon is next week and I'm so pumped. We got local businesses to donate gift cards or free meals (Tropical Smoothie, Qdoba, Five Guys, etc) and for those who donate more than $2 they will be placed in a raffle to win. Also, sisters have had pledge sheets since before Christmas to ask around for family and friends to donate. The 2 sisters who raise the most before Rock A Thon also get a prize. We made a Facebook group and invited almost everyone on campus. Our Philanthropy chair also sent out formal letters to all of the department heads on campus informing them of the event so they could get the word out to the professors. Hope I helped and good luck!!!

Depending on how big you want this to be, you may want to try to use star power. What I mean is starting with local radio and news stations, telling them about your events so that they can get the word out. There may be a popular, up-and-coming talent that is based near you that you could try to book based on the publicity offerred. If you can do that, then all you need is one big news station to make a mention of the local star who is making a difference with Phi Sig. Do you get my drift? Start from the bottom and work your way up. Another thing to note is that the local disk jockeys at the radio stations may actually be able to act as a source of leads for finding such talent.
