recruitment giveaways
Does any of your chapters give items away during rush? ie. key chains, frisbees, cups etc. How effective have they been for you? I'm trying to advise the delta of my chapter and i'm not sure how cost effective they would be. Would it just be better to put the money towards food at events?

Billy, I have never heard of this being done before and wonder if a school may have a problem with it?
If legal, then you may want to give something that is inexpensive and something they will keep and use. Like the key chain maybe.
Still not sure if a food deal may be better though.

Our school doesn't have a problem with giving stuff away. Our student events board use to give out key chain cd openers and little things like that. its been almost 10 years since the last time my chapter did rush giveaways. We had small plastic bottles filled with paper clips that had labels with our contact info on them. Surprisingly they were really good PR because just about every teacher and office on campus had them. but as far as our target audience think about going with different items and was wondering what over chapters did.

Yeah, but then you have a bunch of guys having LXA keychains, frisbees, etc., that aren't really brothers.

As a rush event, we gave away a brand new TV set.
Brothers were stationed all over campus with clues that led participants from one brother to the next. The first to figure out all the clues, and complete all the steps, which led to a hidden old TV vacuum tube, and returned it to the chapter won the TV. It became quite an event in itself and was very popular on campus. Lots of students got involved in it, and met a lot of the brothers along the way during the process. It was fun. We called it The Lambda Chi Alpha TreasureVision Hunt.
Best of all, it worked. As I recall we got quite a few AMs as a result. People like to compete on a somewhat cerebral level (hence the popularity of TV game shows) and everyone had fun even if they didn't win.

Nice Gamma. No shortage of that giveaway here either. Jono that does sound like it could be a cool event that isn't the same old thing. I know UCLA use to raffle off a surf board at the house. I've always wanted to get a ball signed by either the O's or the Ravens and raffle that off but with the way they have been playing i don't think anyone would want them.

I think it's a good idea - I've never thought of it...
As far as letters go, you could use English letters rather than Greek...
Either way - it doesn't matter. All someone needs is paypal and the ability

You could give away a book scholarship of $100. Set certain requirements to qualify to win such as an interview, GPA, and involvement. That way you get potentials that meet the requirements of a brother that you would want, and eliminate those that you don't. Everyone loves free money.
