This Thread Isn't As Good as Modern Family... (A South Carolina Story)

If you haven't been watching Modern Family, one of the funniest shows on television, I highly recommend that you catch up online before season 2 starts.

No, this thread won't be as good as the show, or even have anything really to do with it at all, but since this PNM was searching for (and found) a new family at USC, what better thread theme? Plus, Glee is taken.

The houses:

Jay
Gloria
Claire
Phil
Mitchell
Cameron
Manny
Luke
Haley
Alex

Important things to know:

The PNM (let's call her Lily, named after Mitch and Cam's baby) has connections to several houses, but none of these connections have anything to do with South Carolina's chapters.

Lily is a legacy to Gloria. Her best friend also recently pledged Gloria at another school.

Lily also has friends who recently pledged Phil and Haley at another school.

Lily had heard really positive things about Jay, Gloria, Claire, and Haley prior to recruitment. She had not heard anything negative about the other chapters, but she was going in really expecting to love these four.

I've only seen one episode of this show, but it was hilarious! I don't know which character is which, so I can't pick anyone to root for.

JAY
Lily could instantly tell that the Jays were smart. They all seemed very intelligent and carried themselves well in conversation. They were very sweet to her and made her feel instantly welcome. She did, however, feel pressure to be "perfect" around them because they were so beautiful, sweet, and smart.

GLORIA
Lily was very excited to visit her legacy house and was super excited that the girls who met her knew she was a legacy right away. It made her feel very special that they knew more than just her name, but actually knew about her interests and her major. She was a little intimidated at the beginning (for the same reasons as she felt at Jay), but she felt much more relaxed by the time she left Gloria.

CLAIRE
Lily really enjoyed meeting the girls at this house. She thought they were really relaxed and fun, and she had good conversations with everyone she met.

PHIL
Lily felt very awkward with the Phils. No matter each Phil she spoke with, she felt like the conversation was the same... it never really reached a deeper level.

MITCHELL
Lily felt lukewarm about this house. The girls were nice enough, but the conversations were kind of hit-or-miss in terms of how comfortable she felt with each girl.

CAMERON
Lily enjoyed meeting the girls at this house, though she wouldn't count them as a favorite (not yet, anyway). She said the girls were nice.

MANNY
Lily really liked this house. The girls made her feel at home right away and just knew the "right things" to say to make her feel happy the whole time she was there.

LUKE
Lily thought all of the girls in this house were super cute and their excitement was obvious. She felt happy the whole time she was there.

HALEY
Lily thought these girls appeared to be "perfect" and therefore she was seriously intimidated. They were really sweet, and nothing they said to her was scary/intimidating, but she just never felt completely relaxed here. Because she hears such great things about Haley, she would be willing to give them another chance if they invited her back.

ALEX
Lily really liked this house. She felt comfortable and at home right away and all the girls she spoke with were really sweet.

For round 2, PNMs can visit up to 8 houses.

These 8 are in no particular order except for the last 2. Lily would not be brokenhearted if they did not invite her back.

Lily's Least Favorite 2:

Unfortunately, I was dumb and put two of my favorite characters in the bottom 2. Should have thought better when creating the key. Oh well.

So Lily was cut by Haley, but she wasn't too distressed about it because she had been so intimidated by them anyway. She was thrilled to go back to the first 6 on this list, interested to go back to Cameron, and totally willing to give Mitchell another try.

JAY
Lily really felt at home here during round two. The girls kept saying that they had heard so much about her and really made her feel special... like she had been invited back as opposed to just like she hadn't been cut.

GLORIA
Lily also felt at home here. The girls made her feel like a princess and she was rushed by a girl who was also a legacy, which reminded her how special it would be to pledge her legacy house.

CLAIRE
Lily really liked this house and felt comfortable here.

MANNY
Lily was also very comfortable and happy here.

LUKE
Lily just can't get over how bubbly and excited everyone is at this house... it was actually a little much for her at points! Overall, though she felt comfortable here and enjoyed their enthusiasm.

ALEX
Lily really liked and felt very comfortable at this house.

CAMERON
Lily again enjoyed visiting this house, but she doesn't know that she will end up here.

MITCHELL
Lily just doesn't feel comfortable at this house. The conversations were, once again, hit-or-miss, and she felt so super comfortable at every other house that this really stuck out.

Lily just loved both of these houses. Again, she felt completely at home and felt very special.

CLAIRE/MANNY/ALEX
Lily had a good time at each of these houses and loved them all, too, but just not as much or in the same way as Jay and Gloria.

Lily's Bottom 3: All great, but she can't pref 'em all!

Lily had a really hard time ranking her last 3 because she genuinely liked them all fairly equally.

She couldn't believe her good fortune... her two top chapters! She really hoped that the preference round would help her make a decision.

Well, during prefs she felt equally connected to both houses. She felt at home and happy in both of them... and while she almost wished she could have another round of recruitment to make a decision, she knew that would probably just confuse her more.

As Lily weighed her options, each time she was about to fill out her card she stopped and thought "But I really love them both." It truly took her a long time to decide which to rank where, but in the end she just had to know that while all things were equal in these chapters at USC, Gloria had something Jay didn't have... it was not only her legacy house but also her best friend's new house at UGA.

Congrats to Lily. By my calculations 3 SC stories, 3 legacies pledged their legacy chapters. Sounds like a trend to me.
