Pins breaking

I was wondering if any other chapters have had problems with pledge pins and service pins breaking. It seems that the quality of the pins isn't too good. We usualy have at least one pledge pin break per pledge class. One of our new brothers who just got inducted on sunday had his service pin break apart when he was taking it off of his shirt later that night. Any one else have these sorts of problems?

We've had a few do the same thing with the newly initiated brothers as well. Unfortunately, if the pins were made of anything other than the materials they are, they would be too expensive for most chapters to purchase in mass quantities.

Personally, I've never had a service pin. In my chapter, we got badges instead (though we paid for part of them.....it was the same in my social GLO) and we had the option of the level of quality.

PS>...congrats on your new brothers!!

It happens. The pin part will come apart from the rest of the pin. You should be able to send them back to the National Office for replacement (but verify).

We had one pledge drop their pledge pin on the ground (actually brick walkway) outside the restaurant we were going to after the pledge ceremony. She was really upset and wanted to pay for a new one. We told it wasn't a problem, we would get a new one from the Office (I think we had extras on hand so we could replace it quickly).

This is a good reason to have extras on hand in the chapter, to replace lost/broken pins. At $4 each, there shouldn't be a problem with have 3-4 extras on hand.

It's funny because we had a pledge have his pin break on installation night. One hour and the pin was broken. I won't even go on about how many pledge pins my line brothers went through in Spring 2007. The pins just are poor quality I am guessing??!!
