Another Rec Question (canada style!)
I was just wondering if anyone has been through rush at a Canadian University, and whether they had to obtain recs at all??
I was looking at the panhellenic website for my university and it doesn't state anything about recs, or on many of the other Canadian universities panhellenic websites....so does this mean recs aren't recquired for formal recruitment?
Thanks for anyone that can help!

Recs are never required for formal recruitment at any school in the US or Canada.
However, if it is commonplace for PNMs to procure recs prior to coming into recruitment at your school, then you need to make sure you get them, too-- in order to remain competitive.
Call the office of Greek Life at your university and ask if the sororities tend to receive many recs/references. If yes, then you should, too.
However, in my experience with our Canada chapters, recs were not terribly common nor expected.

Then you may call whatever office the fraternities and sororities fall under, such as the Office of Student Activities, or the equivalent.

Send a pm to Jill1228.
She used to be involved with the Alpha Phi chapter at UBC and she may be able to give you some general advice. There are 5 or 6 Gamma Phis on here from Canadian chapters but none of them appear to have been on recently but if you wanted to send them a pm, you can find them in our roll call list.
I know enough to know that Greek Life is handled differently up there and in some cases it's without official University help. But that's all I know.

I'm familiar with how things are done at Western Ontario, U of Toronto and Dalhousie, so if any information about those campuses would be helpful, you can PM me. (and recs aren't necessary at any of them, but I'm sure they would appreciate them if you have them).

Thanks for all of your replies and help ladies!
Since the general consensus seems to be a no, I'll stop worrying about it ahaha.
I can't wait until September for formal recruitment!
