OSCARS
So, what did everyone think? I missed most of it, can anyone tell me who won best supporting actor and actress and best actor (was it Russel Crowe? If so, what was his speech like?)
I thought Julia Robert's speech was kinda cute, but then again, her win was anti-climactic.
I was also kinda disappointed that Gladiator won best pic because it was really good, but not as profound or deep as some movies.
And what about Steve Martin as MC? I love him, but wasn't too impressed with the opening. Wasn't it sad how he kept making Gladiator/ Russell Crowe jokes and the camera would go to Crowe and he would look pissed off?
Let's hear it!

I liked the awards. I missed a bit in the middle tho. I was kind of upset that Kate Hudson didn't get best supporting. That was a huge surprise.
As for Mr. Crowe. He is nortorious for having a pickle up his butt. He looked completely unimpressed by Steve Martin's joke, which was, albiet kinda mean, only respresentative of his behavior with women. (he's known to be QUITE the ladies man). Laugh it off buddy. He was like that at the awards last year too. He comes off very stuffy. It was all over the radio this morning too....the look on his face when Steve Martin made that crack about him . It was classic. I was at an Oscar party and we were all laughing our butts off.
What did everyone think of how Princess Julia looked? I'm finding that all women think she's beatiful and guys think she's gross. This is the general consensus among all the guys and girls i know anyhow. Weird. I thought she looked AMAZING.
That's my 2 cents.

I thought some of Steve Martin's jokes were on the rude side...esp since russell crowe is not known to have the worlds best sense of humor. if it had been me, i would've steered clear of jokes with him as the punchline. But, they didn't ask me to host, this year, so... ha ha
SO HAPPY Steven Soderbergh got best director!!! I had the pleasure of working with him a few years ago and he is a really cool, really nice, down to earth guy. The look on his face when they announced it was priceless--he was stunned.
And SO HAPPY to see Cameron Crowe get best original screenplay. He is, IMHO amongst the most talented screenwriters in the business. And as Almost famous was based on his life, all the sweeter that he get the award for that!
And I think Julia looks gorgeous. But she always does, IMHO. I don't think there are prettier women who can pull off their beauty with as much style and grace and warmth and intelligence as she does. She seems real, seems like she'd be a fun girlfriend-- I think that approachability makes her all the more beautiful.

SuperXO...if you go here...you will find everything you want to know about the BIG EVENT.... http://www.oscar.com/
As for the Russell Crowe jokes, yes, perhaps he is a bit of a skirt-chaser, but I thought the making light of the kidnapping situation (.e. that Tom Hanks was behind the whole thing) was in extremely bad taste and not funny at all. (When they honed in on Tom Hanks' face, Tom Hanks didn't seem to think it was funny either, and he was mentioned in the joke).
Julia Roberts looked gorgeous, and her speech made me laugh.

The Kidnapping thing was hilarious! Tom Hanks wasn't looking pissed, he was pretending to be ashamed! Like he had been caught.
As for Russell Crowe, I'm glad he won. He's really talented. He's tried to keep his private life private and doesn't like people making jokes about him, but come on! He's in show business - if people didn't care, he wouldn't make any money acting!
Julia Roberts... she's cute more than pretty. I think that her dress was stunning last night (vintage Valentine) and she looked very classy. No suprise that she won, but her speech was kinda overly peppy... but I know I wouldn't be real cool if I won!

Leslie, I have to agree I loved Julia's look last night, especially her dress. I really enjoyed Steve Martin as host, he has always been one of my favourite actors. My fave part of the evening though was when Danny Devito was eating his carrot sticks and Steve Martin brought him some dip.
I think Traffic should have won best picture.

I also think Traffic should have won best picture.
Its always funny to me when it happens that a Pic is named Best Directed, Best Written, Best (Supporting) Acted -- but its not the best picture?
Traffic, IMHO, is a more important film in its message than Gladiator. Its more representative of the year and the era. But again, its just my opinion, I did not care for Gladiator--thought it was basically an action movie with no script. It took three people to write that? Come on. It was largely visual. Again, JUST my OPINION. Not looking to start a fight. My fav movie last year was Almost Famous, so that will tell you where my tastes run.

I have to say that I though Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon should have won Best Picture. Before I'm jumped - it had all the makings of a classic. Wonderful protagonists, an antagonist that you want to love, lots of action, a touching and deep storyline, beautiful acting, amazing special effects, and great music. It has been a long time since I have gone to see one movie three times. I loved it more each time!

Amy, i definitely agree!! I love Julia Roberts, and she looked wonderful last night! I missed her speech, but im glad she won!
Well I thought Russell Crowe looked good in the Gladiator, but he didnt look so hot to me last night. What was up with his hair?! He looked so arrogant too!!
Anyway, Gladiator won best picture, julia roberts won best actress, who won best actor??
By the way, i didnt like Britney's Pepsi Commercial, but no surprise there. I cant stand her anyway!

i thought Renee Zellweger looked gorgeous in her yellow gown, and i really like Catherine Zeta Jones corset type dress... i really think she is a classic beauty. I just saw Traffic on saturday... wow, what a powerful movie - it totally left me thinking. that movie was right on target with how life really is, i know so many teenagers just like those in the movie... its really scary!

I agree with you totally, in terms of being more important, and i'm not gonna 'jump' you or anything - but all i'm asking is if social/cultural importance makes for a better movie? And when writing a movie, the visualization plays an important role (much like shakespeare's "exit, chased by bear", on a more grand scale) . . . plus, traffic's message is pretty wide-spread - the 'drugs ruin lives' message is pretty common-knowledge, and many people that use know the dangers of use. Meanwhile, who knew the dangers posed by gladiators?!? ; ) i'd vote for the 'best picture', ie the one that made for the best overall experience (not telling which one). anyway - i'm one of those 'analyze movie crap too much' kids . . . and how crazy is the crack-whore scene in traffic? i loved both those movies though -
Rob
