Talking What do you love about your university/college???

Hey!!! I figured I would post something new so I could tear myself away from the Leslie and Amycat thread. Plus I really don't feel like doing my homework right now. Anyways...I have a question for everyone.

What do you love about your college/university?

and for those of you not yet in college...What are you looking for in a college?

I knew my entire life that I would be going to LSU. Almost all of my family has gone here so there was a proud tradition to uphold. I grew up right here near Baton Rouge so every Saturday night in the fall was spent in Death Valley cheering on the football team. Now that I'm actually a student...I get even more psyched up about going to the games. It gives me chills when the band marches out before the game. Plus I love that we have a GORGEOUS and successful baseball team. Plus I just absolutely love being from the South.

Anyways...I've rambled on enough. One last thing...GEAUX TIGERS!!!! LSU!!! LSU!!! LSU!!! LSU!!!

TigerGirl - i was actually at LSU last week when you guys lost to tulane like 13-1 - it was crazy, every person i saw was pissed; baseball's not that serious most places, it was pretty cool.

But anyway - here at BU, it's great being in the city; I love Boston, it's the best city in the world. Nothing's better than scalping sox tickets for real cheap in the 2nd inning, and watching Nomah with some brothers. Sure, the people are rude, and it smells bad in certain places, and the Charles River is absolutely disgusting . . . but still, it's the best city in the world

I love USC --that's SOUTHERN CAL, not South Carolina!

I can't explain it. The school inspires passionate school spirit. I am so PROUD to be a Trojan, to have the amazing sports and academic legacies--- Baseball Nat'l Champs a couple years ago...

I LOVE USC! Oh wait, I said that. Well, I love being from California too, so like Allison and the South, that plays a big part for me.

looking back on my first semester of college life here at the University of Iowa, i know i definitell made the right choice. I always knew i'd head to a Big 10 school, which one though, was up for grabs. My mom went to Purdue, Dad Northwestern and my sister to the University of Illinois. There's just something about IOWA though. The campus, i love it. It's set in the "rolling hills of Iowa" (right out of the brochure ) and my campus overlooks the Iowa River. It really is a pretty campus compared to a lot of the Big 10 schools, ahem u of illinois . the people here are awesome. seriously, when i visited, everyone was friendly and helpful, and thats been my expereince for the past semester and a half. there's soo many organizations to get involved in here - over 350 student groups!!! i love getting involved, so that was awesome. being able to walk to all of my classes is great too, sure sometimes its a hike, but managable. of course there's downsides, i'm a big city girl (chicago) and Iowa City is hardly he big city and the weather here sucks during the winter, but i'm from chicago, so i'm used to it. plus, the nightlife here rocks. over 15 bars on campus with nightly drink specials and ou only need to be 18/19 to get in - doesn't get much better than IOWA! Go Hawks!

What I like most about the school is that my parents went here, and so did an uncle. They can't throw me out just kidding. I think its neat my parents met here, right out by the fountain.

I love the University of Hawaii at Manoa because...

-we have the support of the entire state when our teams (all of them--not just football!) play...which is probably due in part that we don't have professional teams, so UH is their pride and joy.

-here, volleyball is like GOD. though our teams haven't won a national championship in a while, they do well every season and usually rank within the top 5 in all the polls. visit the stan sheriff center, and you'll bear witness to the new "religion" that attracts 10,000 faithfuls every weekend.

-we have so much campus diversity, which is pretty much a reflection of my state.

-we have Manoa Gardens, an eating place that includes a bar where you can relax with a brew during the day. weekends they have karaoke too!

-we have doctors that have cloned mice!

-this may sound cheesy, but a lot of the professors here are very nurturing and care about things that students are interested in. i mean, where else can you find a history class like "VIVA LAS VEGAS!"?

-the outpouring of aloha that my school gets from the state in tremendous and very unique. we have other colleges in this state, but they truly don't compare to the support that my school receives.

...and that is why i love UH-Manoa.

I'm really glad I came up with this thread. I love hearing why people chose to go to their respective schools.

Anyways...I figured out some more things I love about LSU:
--we have an absolutely beautiful campuses (especially Sorority Row)
--TAILGATING!!!!!!!!!
--we're close enough to New Orleans to party HARD, yet I don't have to worry about being in the Quarter all the time(my parents love this one...LOL)
--the FOOD(all I'm gonna say is BOILED CRAWFISH...that's what I'm craving)

And last but not least...
--the people(everyone that goes to LSU is totally awesome because we all bleed purple and gold)

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!

Hey KSig--What were you down here for??? Did you enjoy your stay here in Baton Rouge??? As for the baseball team losing...we were just in a slump. We're back now and better than ever. We swept Florida this weekend(like any true Tiger...I'm a Gator Hater)!!!

One of my brothers is from NO, a bunch of his friends go to LSU so we stopped up to say hi on our spring break roadtrip - we definitely had a good time while we were there, for sure.

Cool

I LOVE the Chimes! I've never been to Serrano's though - I really should try it, I know.

BTW, do you know a Box at Cane's has over 65g of fat in it?! I found that out last week!

For all you non-LSU tigers, Rasing Cane's is a chicken finger place right off campus that has the best stuff, ever. Its a box of fries, fried chicken fingers, texas toast, and special Cane's Sauce. Yummy, but soooooooo greasy!

I love highland road, until I get lost or accidentally end up in Port Allen - you know what I'm talking about

I went to Indiana State - famous for Larry Bird!!! I loved the school and my whole family went there. When I did my campus tour- a fraternity brother of my dad (who was employed at the school) took care of me. It is small enough where whatever you want to do - whatever organization you want to join- it is possible but if you want to venture to a new place - you have Purdue, Indiana University and Rose Hulman right there.

KSig RC - my husband did his thesis at Northeastern on the Charles River! It was a study on the (and I am not kidding) "Killum Rat Virus" - I call it the "Kill Them Rat Virus". It must be a disgusting river!

Cool

For me its the natural beauty of the UT- San Antonio campus. It was designed with environmental protections and preservation in mind, so nature is a big part of the campus. also the university is in a un-developed part of town, so it really has the natural setting, with lots of green space preserved. You actually could drive by it and never see it from the surface streets. It is totally hidden by the trees. it is also "located at the foot of the texas hill country" <that too from the recruitment brochure> so it is really hilly and there are lots of deer and you can even see our mascot roaming in the parking lots (roadrunner - no coyote jokes, please. BTW, we are hosting the NCAA Midwest regionals this weekend, so when you are watching the games on CBS and see what looks like a blue chicken on stereoids on the court, that is our mascot, the roadrunner).

anyway, I love our campus on a warm spring afternoon or on a cool autumn night. so peaceful, so quiet, and the smell of the cedar trees after a rain on campus. mmmmmmmm

just my 2 rupies

it used to be awful - it was something like the 2nd most poluted body of water in the US . . . but they've started a big reclaimation project. It looks absolutely beautiful, but you still don't swim in it or anything, if you know what i mean - unless you're into jaundice
