Michael Baisden on Submissive Wives....smh
Did anyone else listen to the BS on the MB show yesterday when he was saying how the role of a wife is to help her husband and moreover, a wife should submit to her husband whenever there is a conflict of interest??? I think that is a bunch of chauvanist BS. What is worse is that a lot of people tend to use the Bible as a justification for it, but yet too many people forget that marriage in Bible times is totally different than marriage in 2007. For one, most marriages back then were arranged, second there was a huge age difference (teenaged girl with a man in his 30's-40's). Not to mention that a woman's role in society was one of inferiority to a man. She could not make it in society on her own. Back then, women were in a position below male children so it's no suprise that what was written in the Bible says that women should submit. The difference between then and now is that a woman COULD NOT take care of herself and thus she had to depend on her husband to take care of her. It made sense to submit back then under those circumstances, but you can't apply the same rules to a new game. To say that a woman who is out in the world working just as hard as her husband, should then submit to him because he's "the man" is discrimination without a doubt. Why is it any different just because it's discrimination within the home? What if we said that women should not be able to run for president, only vice president?? Is that any different? You are still saying that a woman can't hold a certain amount of authority in her own home. A husband and wife should submit to EACH OTHER. You win some, you lose some. If there is a conflict of interest, then someone must back down, but it certainly should not always be the woman. Why should she always get the short end of the stick? If they really love each other then they will chose their battles wisely and one will love the other enough to back down and let the other win sometimes. It has to work both ways. As a woman, I'm highly offended by such statements. Anyone else feel this way?
