Campus Nicknames
Something that is becoming more and more popular is the use of Sig Nu, excluding the oh-so-hard-to-say "ma" from the organization's name. Is this something happening elsewhere as well? Does anyone else feel cheated when this happen?
Example: The Alpha Sigma Alphas, one of my favorite sororities while attending UCA, decided to design a welcome mat for the House. "Great!", I think. Then my stomach drops when I read SIG NU on it. Great gesture, ladies... but pay attention! Do we call ourselves "Sig Nu" around here? Negative.
Something personal, I guess. I just always thought it was that extra syllable that helped keep us distinguished from Sig Ep, Sig Tau, Phi Sig, and whoever else. The extra syllable meant more of a man or commitment or something... hell, I don't know. You won't ever see me saying "I am a Sig Nu..."
