Sapphire Ball or Spring Formal....
So where is everyone's Sapphire Ball going to be this year. (like on campus, at a hall, hotel, on a boat, etc.) When is it too, and if you know the theme what is it going to be?
*Just thought this would be a fun thread cuz I love talking about Formals*
Oh yea and if you already started planning: who is your date, are you going solo or with sisters
and better yet, what is your dress gonna look like?
(its cool if no one started planning yet. i haven't, ours isn't till May and I won't start planning a date or dress until like a week before I do already have a hair appointment though. Only cuz I can never do my hair cute, so once a year I like to have it done.)
Go ahead start discussing.........

Sapphire Ball
Our 2nd annual Sapphire Ball is going to be on Apri 26th at a restaurant called Simons. It's located at harbor of the Port of Los Angeles and the place is absolutely gorgeous. It's used a lot for weddings and receptions (if I ever get married that would definitely be an option). It is decorated so beautifully that we really only need to buy some small centerpieces for decorations and everything else is set. Simons is located right on the water and has a patio that we'll do the dancing on.

Like Carolyn mentioned, our's is at Simon's in Ports 'O Call, on April 26th...
I already have my dress. I'm using my prom dress (because I spent A LOT of money to have it made, and because I absolutely love it!!!) which is a deep red, almost like a blood red. It has a halter top, instead of straps, and connects at the waist like a princess dress... Like in a V form... Then the bottom of the dress is pretty fluffy.
I have a shaul for the dress, that is really beautiful! It's blood red (exact same color as the dress) and has a beautiful Indian (middle eastern) design in gold at the bottom. I saw this fabric at the fabric store at the mall, and about died! I made my mom buy like 5 yds of it, so I could show the dress maker what kinda material I wanted for my dress. (Yeah, I had my dress made after I saw my shaul...)
For shoes, I'm going to wear ballerina slippers. Since my dress is to the floor, and I'm pretty tall anyway, no one is gonna notice... Plus, I'd rather be comfortable!
I'm going to get my hair done. Everytime I go somewhere fancy, I get my hair done... (If you knew me, you'd understand why-I always wear my hair in either a bun or ponytail... BORING!) The lady that I go to only charged me $15 for last year's ball!!!
And my friend Manuel told me that he'll be my date... So that's cool with me!
Well that's about all I can think of right now.

ok, since I started the thread, I guess I'll post info on our sapphire ball...
Ours is on May 10th and it will be held at the Double Tree Hotel. Its a big deal for us because normally we rent a hall. (my chapter did the boat thing once and there was bugs everywhere, so what I heard...it was before my time; but Theta Chi is having theirs on a boat this year and that would be so much fun, so I think I am going to have start talking to my boy buds about that one. j/k) The double tree has these huge rooms that are normally used for high school proms and our social chair is really excited and I know it is gonna be awesome. The theme has something to do with masks. We are going to decorate our own at an informal meeting. I am very excited!!
On the whole date thing, even though I wait till the last minute I am however starting my list of eligible men that might be lucky enough to escort me this year.
I don't have a dress yet either. Last year I borrowed one but the year before I went on a major shopping spree in the city (San Francisco) so who knows what I'll do. most likely I will recycle an old prom dress, because they were all sooo cute. (me fitting into them though, is another story )
ok I'm done now.

our formal is going to be at honeymoon mansion
we rented the entire ballroom
and we have stretch escalades picking us up to take us there for the over 21
we have the whole place from 6 PM until 3 AM
our theme is masquerade
so we're all buying or borrowing pouffy gowns
i will probably wait until the week before to get mine
that way i can swish around in it paying half of the price
my date is still up in the air
i don't know who i'm going to ask
probably some cute guy off the basketball team though

I can't wait, ours is on Saturday night at a hotel on the beach. The room we have is AWESOME! It has an ocean view and one of the walls is all windows and overlooks the beach! I am going with my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years, lol, its our 3rd Sapphire Ball! My dress is absolutely FABULOUS! Jessica Mcclintock, black and white. Very classic looking! I have no idea what to do with my hair!

Hey everyone,
We already had our Saphire Ball. It was on Sat, Feb 15, 2003. We had snow on friday night and they were calling for more on saturday, so we were not sure if we were going to have to cancel. Well, the snow held off for us and we all made it there and home safely. Late saturday night/ early sunday morning we had a blizzard that trapped us inside for almost a week.
The formal was held at The National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD. It was so beautiful. The room that we were in over looked the water of the Inner Harbor. We could see the lights from all of the buildings and boats. We were allowed to walk around the aquarium for most of the night. I was so awsome.
My date was my best guy friend. I could not have imagined taking anyone else (I have a HUGE crush on him!!!). He was excited to go and I think he had a good time. I asked him to go with me back in November.
The dress that i wore was one that I had from high school. I didn't have money to spend on another dress. It is a beautiful dress and I love it so much. During and after that night so many of my sisters told me that my dress was so beautiful and elegant.
I can not remember what our theme was but when i find out i will post it.
I had the best time. This was my first Phi Sig formal. I think it would be cool if we posted our pictures, but i am not sure how to . Well I hope that all of you have a good time at your formals and you will have to let us know how it was.
LITP,
Nicole

Our Sapphire Ball is May 10 at the Shearaton on Fisherman's wharf... GORGEOUS touristy hotel here in San Fran it should be SOOO MUCH fun ! I think one of my sisters is making my dress... it's a vantage vogue pattern based off a christian Dior Design it's going to be BEAUTIFUL... I haven't decided what to do about my hair yet.. probably get it done ... and I don't have a date... but that could change.. but it's not likely going to... NE WAY... Last year we did ours with a chapter in the area... I kinda wish we were doing it again because I liked watching them do their awards and stuff... but it'll be cool anyway.

That was my chapter!! Cara, I am glad you had fun we are such nerds with our awards! I felt bad that your bus got lost, because we didn't really have time to mingle and stuff. Oh yea do you remember the whole foot breaking incident? I was one of the girls!!! Not the one that broke her foot the one that accidently broke it for her! <--- ok so if you are all, WTF? The story is I was dancing on a chair trying to be cute. (completely sober!) and then my friend Brooke comes up and says, get on my back, i'll give you a piggie back ride! after telling her no way, she grabed me and started running. Well I slipped (cuz we were both in dresses) and hit the ground hard. ( I was fine) then after i hit the ground she fell and broke her ankle. Horrible huh. It will for sure be a sapphire ball I will never forget! (oh yea she had to wobble around on crutches, for a really long time; even to convention!) Don't worry I made up for breaking it though.
Anyway that stinks that delta gamma and theta mu are having their formals on the same night, we could of went to two sapphire balls! Maybe next year...

I am so jealous. Everyone sounds like they are going to have (or already have had) a great time. I never got to go to a Sapphire Ball. I had to leave school before ours was held. It's sad, I know.
I hope you all have a great time, though. Take lots of pictures and share!

I am an advisor for a chapter of Phi Sig (I just graduated May 2002 and I am only 22) and the ladies decided that they really wanted my boyfriend and I to come to their formal! Isn't that so sweet?? Anyway, it's being held at DoverDowns in Delaware in April. I don't know too much about it, but I checked out the website and everything looks awesome!
I haven't decided if I will repeat a dress from previous formals or not...I probably will since most of these ladies haven't seen my dresses! But, if I find a good deal on a dress, I will most definately hop on it!!! Yeah Phi Sig

I hope you make the best decision for you, I just don't want you to regret not going. I you do decide to go I hope you have a great time and if you don't go I hope you still have a great time. You're the only one who knows what's best.
