Founder's Day Message
4/16/2007 - Founders' Day Message
Dear Alpha Xi Delta Sisters,
April is a fabulous month for many reasons. It is a time to plant flowers, to stay on top of studies to prepare for final exams, and to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful spring weather.
April is also a wonderful month to reflect on Alpha Xi Delta’s history. I am not much of a historian, but I do love to flip through the pages of my copy of Alpha Xi Delta: A 100-Year History book. My favorite thing to do is find quotes from sisters of our early years and reflect upon how relevant they are today.
Anna Miller Knote, Past National President from 1920-1922 remarked in 1926, when she was our National Executive Secretary, “Our position in the Greek world is now secure, and more so than ever before. Our good name is respected and honored; our chapters everywhere are working with the confidence which is inspired by membership in a first-class organization.”
Today, I am inspired by my membership in a first-class organization.
Founders’ Day is a time to fondly and respectfully honor the ten courageous, intelligent and compassionate young women that gave roots to Alpha Xi Delta. It is also a time to reflect on the many sisters throughout our history that have given their energy, enthusiasm, ideas and gifts to our Fraternity to help our organization grow into what we are today.
Founders’ Day is also about reflecting on our future. April has special significance for my family as one year ago on the 1st day of April, we brought our little girl home from Russia to be with our family forever. We are so happy to have her as part of our family’s future and as a mother who is an Alpha Xi Delta, hope that she will one day become part of our sisterhood.
Our Founders gave us something beautiful to share with our sisters of tomorrow. For this and for many, many reasons I celebrate Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders’ Day. I sincerely hope you also take a little time this Founders’ Day to reflect on Alpha Xi Delta to honor our heritage and lifetime membership in this outstanding organization.
Fraternally yours,
Deborah Fenwick Maas
National President
TFJ to all AXiD out and to 114 year of sisterhood. Also congratulations to Nu chapter on their centennial.
