Concealed Weapons Laws
Several states have passed concealed weapons laws, including mine, which goes into effect in April.
Are you in favor of this or in opposition? Have you gotten your permit? Do you think this will make a difference in crime or safety?

Weapons
Being in law enforcement these laws are mostly a joke.
Due to the current court systems corruptness and racial imbalances this law basically covers there butts.
Where there is a will there will be a way. Just look at the fact that in most states you are supposed to have a gun permit. I think we can count how many folks don't have them and get caught with concealed weapons but are slapped on the wrist by the court systems. Most murderers have been either caught with a gun before to only get a small fine or probation.
I am all in favor of gun control but first we need to vote for judges that will make sure you do the crime you do the time.

Well . . . only law absiing citizens will care about the law right? That shows how futile the law is right there.

I'm from ST.Louis and Missouri's concealed weapons law is still in the courts being decided on. If it comes into effect and I move back home, then I might decided to get one. But my only problem is that people think this law will stop gun crimes and that is not the case, I do believe that people will use this as a reason to protect themselves. But what happens when that person who is carrying the gun makes a mistake and shots an innocent person who happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time? No matter how much training they give something horrible may happen.

I am in one of only four states that do not allow concealed firearms, although our legislature is now debating it again.
This time, they are making it a "women's saftey" issue, saying that women should be allowed to carry concealed weapons to protect themselves (citing that some rape victims already carry concealed guns).
My personal feelings towards firearms aside, I have to agree with James. If only law abiding citizens adhere to this law, what's the effectiveness of it?

I like the fact that the average citizen can obtain a permit to carry a weapon. At least, we are able to keep up with the criminals who are carrying them illegally already. However, I am concerned that people with good intentions might end up in situations they wouldn't normally have been in because they have a weapon.

I think its funny that we discuss and debate if law abiding citizens should have guns...when we all know that Criminals have plenty of them.... I guess its a personal decision though..

Florida now allows for the concealed weapons permit to be exempt from public records. So not only can you have a concealed weapon permit no one knows about it. Additionally, you can match force with force in public so if you're in the street and someone pulls a gun on you, you can shoot them and suffer no consequences.
The only reason I don't have a gun is because there are several people who would have bullet holes in them (below the knees, that way it's not attempted murder)

Well, I'm a goody goody and I don't think that it will help anything to have everyday people rolling around with guns in their purses/bags/pockets. What the heck? To me that's a recipe for having folk dueling out in the streets even more than they already do. And somebody will PROBABLY get shot - and it might not be either of the people with guns.
I don't think I want to live in a state where I can be coming out the mall on any given Saturday and folk busting caps in other folks. This can happen even in supposedly safe neighborhoods if you allow everyone to carry guns.
I say, crack down on the criminals but don't have random people walking around with firearms. Next thing you know, old people will be trying to shoot, people who have no real training will be trying to shoot, etc. That's even more dangerous, I think - to random innocent bystanders who might get shot by flying bullets.

Just a followup to my last post - my state now allows conceal and carry and I think every business in my city has signs up that says "no guns allowed on property".
I think the law is stupid but whatever.
