Wedding Song Ideas
Hello Sorors and Sisterfriends,
I need a little brainstorming help. A friend of mine is getting married in July. She and her fiance' would like some ideas for songs to be played at the wedding. They've both agreed not to have popular songs played such as Jagged Edge's "Let's get married" or the song "Happily ever after". They want more of soft, love ballad types. The only thing I thought of off the top of my head was Luther Vandross. I guess they want some songs from the 70's or 80's (by the way, the bride is 34 to give you an idea). I know they want "Flesh of my flesh" sung, so any Gospel suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Here are some of my favorites (no particular order):
1. Never Felt This Way - Brian McKnight
2. Whenever You Call - Brian McKnight & Mariah Carey
3. So In Love - UNLV
4. Ribbon in the Sky - Stevie Wonder
5. Together Forever - Shai
6. Discovery - Brian McKnight
7. Every Beat of My Heart - Brian McKnight
(Okay, any love song by Brian McKnight will do-- he's my favorite!)
8. Light A Candle - Jamie Fox
9. Stairway to Heaven - O'Jays
10. All I'll Ever Ask - Freddie Jackson
11. I Will Always Love You - Troop
12. No One Else Comes Close - Joe
I'm a FOOL for romantic ballads, so I have many more where these came from. Let me know if you're still stumped for ideas.

I don't want popular songs, like the kind we hear on the radio all the time played at my wedding either.(when and if that big day comes ...but I do know that I want my first dance with my husband to be to a Natalie Cole remake of her Dad's song..."When I fall in Love." Oooooh-I love that song! And I don't hear too many people playing anything besides Unforgettable, but everyone uses that...and I mean you want to be different and do something that is really Unforgettable!

Wow! Thanks for the quick response. I like slow jams too, but the ones I like aren't appropriate for a wedding! (MsCrimsonCream- i don't want to hear it! )
The 411- I can tell that you are a big Brian McKnight fan!

I know it's cheesy but what about "You & I" (Remember:Michael sang it at Thelma's Wedding on Good Times.) Just Kidding! Seriously though, here's a couple:
Beauty-Dru Hill
You-Jessie Powell
I'll strain my brain and see what else I come up with.
(p.s. wasn't Thelma's wedding every little black girl's dream?)

I have one but I don't know if I will be of much help because I don't know who sings it. "ALWAYS" it's sung by an man and a woman.

Curiousity, I know which song you are talking about. I hope to sing that song to my husband one day.(If that day ever comes that is) The song "Always" is performed by Atlantic Star.

I only have one song right now but I know I can come up with many more. This is one of my favorite old time jams: "You and I" by Stevie Wonder. I love that song.

Hey, y'all!
How COULD you forget the seminal wedding song of the 1970's???? Or 1980, Mom and I aren't sure.
"When We Get Married," by Larry Graham? HELLLOOOOOOO??
I love that song.
BTW kudos to your friend for NOT wanting the unromantic New Jack crud that's out there.
If some man said "we're not getting any younger..." OOOOOOOOH!

what about "Just Be My Lady"?
I might be making that up. I don't remember if that's the actual title of the song, and I don't remember who sings it, but I know it's a man.

Thanks everyone. I printed a list of the songs and my friend loved it. She said she doesn't know how she could have forgotten half of the songs named.

Hey, I'm not sure if this song has been posted or not. But a favorite song of mines is "You are so beautiful"--by Babyface. I am not sure if that is the name of the actual song. But Babyface sang it on that episode of MARTIN when Martin and Gina got married. Thanks. I read alot of wonderful and creative ideas.
