Engagement photos?

Alot of my engaged friends have various opinions about them, so I just wanted to see what you all think:

If you're engaged/married, did you take engagement photos (you know the professional photos of you & fiance)? Do you feel like they are neccessary/important? If you didn't have engagement pictures taken, why not?

For those of you who aren't married, if you WERE engaged, would you want to take engagement photos, or do you just think they are another thing to waste money on?

It's a good chance to document how the couple looks before the bride gains 50 pounds and gets mom hair and the groom goes bald and gets six extra chins and that flabby hopeless look of sexual frustration because she only has time for the children now.

I'll send you an 8x10.

Everyone I know takes them for the paper. I like the idea because then you have a "nice" photo of you two that isn't all weddingy because really, who normally looks like that?

We didn't have them done. We didn't feel the need to have it done

Not all married couples want to have kids. Sometimes they even still like to go to the gym!

And yes, I had engagement pictures taken (for the newspaper).

My engagement photos were included in my wedding photo package and we used one on the program.

I was engaged twice, and the first time, we got the photos. The second time, I decided it was pointless the first time (besides giving them out at Christmas, since it was about that time) so we didn't do it.

We had them done, more for parents and for our hometown papers to announce the engagement. There was no pressure, it was just something we wanted. Plus, it was included with the package we purchased from our wedding photographer.

I'm happy we did them, they came out really well. Plus, (as someone who doesn't always like getting his picture taken) it got me used to the whole thing for when we got the wedding photos taken.

If it's included in your wedding photo package, I'd say go for it. Other than that, I think it's a waste of money. If you need a pic for the local paper (do your really need a pic for that?) I personally wouldn't spend a chunk of change on it. I'd find a friend with a good camera and have them take a couple.

we had them done- they were included as part of the wedding package. And since we were engaged for a year and a half, we had the engagement pictures taken toward the beginning of it and then a year had passed before the wedding pictures.

And I agree about having some nices pictures of the two of you that are not "all wedding-y"

First of all, LOL. I hope this doesn't happen to me.

We haven't gotten engagement photos taken. We did have portraits taken together last year but they aren't very good. Do you all remember the episode of Friends when Chandler and Monica were taking engagement photos and Chandler couldn't smile right? Yeah, my fiance is like Chandler.

We have considered getting engagement photos but we don't really see the point. We're not going to do an engagement announcement so the only thing we'll use it for is our program. We have a really cute picture of us except it's at a bar and we have beer bottles in hand. If we use it, we'll have to crop out the beer or it'll give my grandma a heart attack. We'll more than likely do a wedding announcement and we have a professional photographer to take those pictures (of course).

One of my former classmates just posted her engagement photos on facebook. I understand, alot of people in Ohio love the Steelers, but not enough to take their engagement photos in Steelers gear. Yes, they were wearing Steelers jersies, in front of a Steeler's background (which included the Terrible Towel).

HAHAHAHA! I love it!

It seems like everyone around here gets engagement photos done to put in the newspaper. Most are of both the bride- and groom-to-be, but the "classiest" ones are only of the bride...that's how you know who's society.
