Where is Everyone
Hey there local sororities and frats! I was just wondering where everyone was at? There have been tons of posts on the Rush and Greek Life boards, but I haven't see anyone stop by here lately!!! So I wanted to say hi and see how everyone was.
I also wanted to see how the "locals" do rushing? The school I went to, there are only about 2,300 students, so we don't have 1400 girls looking to pledge (since that would be more than 1/2 of the school!)
Our frats and sororities have "pre-smokers" and "smokers" to have people interesiting in pledging come to a few meetings and see what we're all about. From there, we invite back and start the pledging process... At least that's how we did it when I pledged my sorority.... So how does everyone else do it? Are you guys ready for the new school year?

Hey there
We do rush the exact same as all of the panhallenic sororities at our school. Each chapter including us has a member on E board, ours was actually the pan hell pres a few years back.
Anyway we have informal rush in the fall, socials, info night bowling, etc.
Then in the spring we do pan hallenic formal rush where the PNM's rush all of the sororities. I am excited about rush we start recruiting this week and events start next week Good luck

Hi, everyone.
Well, my sorority is not quite a local since we do have a national organization. But since we only have three collegiate chapters currently, I figured my response was not completely inaccurate. In addition, I was a founder of the first colony which could experience many of the same situations as a local.
I am a member of the Beta Chapter, the first interest group that caused the original chapter to become incorporated as a national organziation. The OU chapter had a lot more difficulty getting established than the original MN chapter. The University of Oklahoma has a very strong greek culture. At the beginning, the other Greek organizations felt that we would be a threat to them. However, when we demonstrated from our founding class that we were not (90% of our members never rushed or seriously considered pledging), they decided to tolerate our presence. Today, the attitude is improving.
As of today, we are still not a part of "Greek Affairs" but more and more people on campus are becoming aware that we do exist. We do not rush in the same manner. Our rush is simply multiple events during the first 3 weeks of classes. Any woman attending three events within that time may pledge if she is pursuing a technical degree. Our membership numbers don't even hit the same ballpark as the other sororities on campus (20 compared to 200, a conservative estimate). We have no house whereas they have mansions. But we do find quality members who believe in our goals and the relationships between sisters is very strong.
Good luck to you all.

Well things at my alma mater
Well i use to attend a school by the name of Olivet College small school, about 900 students attend, and it's about 11 greek on our campus. Yes 11 you might say and 900 students and all of those student are not considering pledeging can be quite a scare for some frat and soror. Out of the 11 frat we are number 11 as being the youngest frat on campus yeah were new about 5 months i think but we are local as all the other frat and soror on Olivet campus. By us being new we are not allowed to call our rush event's Rush, or Smokers, or Tea's, Coffee, anything of that nature until we become offically greek, so we call them Imformational Session. What we do is get guys to come out to our informational session and we tell them the truth about our frat, and goals that we are trying to produce as a new frat. We also broadcast our event's on the Radio station, and we have certain event's that may catch thee eye of some guys. We also focus on incoming freshmen guys that seems to be on there own not being too social, and making them feel at home away from home. So far we have a large number of guys that want to be apart of the Lion den that's what we call ourselves, by our mascot being the lion and keeping it real with the guys. But we have to see if they make the grades, and yes we have study session with guys who come and join it makes a difference. It can be hard when you don't have advantages like the older fraternities on campus but we will make it through and you have to trust in GOD that he will make things work for the good. Well Mu Omega Pi is the name of our fraternity and we are taking things to a higher level in greek life u just sit back and watch.... Greek'sss Rulesssss.. and GOD Bless...

Hey!
Hey everyone! It is getting crazy around here with Sister Plum's wedding taking place in less than two weeks!! So I haven't had much time to work on RUSH. Here in Nova Scotia (Halifax) most people don't know that Greeks really still exist. So we have trouble recruiting dozens of people. We actually had to extend our rush this year, and will have our pledge ceremony on Sunday. I think we have a small class this semester which may be a good thing since the Sisters have gotten plenty of chances to hang out together not worrying about RUSH. Congrats to everyone on successful rushes! Long live the locals!
