Decorating Styles

Hey Greekchatters!

I am about to start the process of decorating the house we built 2 years ago. We have like no furniture in our gameroom, dining room, and I am replacing my bedroom, daughters and living room furniture so we really have a blank slate! I have a couple of questions because I know greekchat is full of stylish people

1. Have you ever used a professional Interior decorator? What were your experiences, cost, outcome?

2. What tips have you come across that saved money, time and turned out wonderful?

I am very traditional and like deep browns, bronzes, golds, deep greens, reds, etc. I realize that this project will probably take another two years to complete but I want it done right and awed everytime I step in my house. Thanks for your advice tips, information!

My mom is using an interior designer now and she is loving it. We are still under construction but already she has picked out her furniture, window treatments, flooring and lighting to incorporate some of her existing items as well. I believe that she is being charged per room plus the cost of the furnishings. Her designer is supposedly going to use her house to submit for an annual design show next year (2007) so when I get pics, I will post them.

Red face I need to be inspired... YAWN!!!

Anyhow,

I have found that if you imagine a "scenery" or "motif" to follow, you can easily add your "touches" and creativity to the kind of house you desire...

I guess my style is "ecletic", and I get 1-2 conversation pieces of furniture and build from there.

Then, I also like to hid stuff quickly and hate to dust. But, I love various hues of oaks and beech. I like some French Provencial... But I can work with other items.

What you ought to do is get a budget and start with the walls or window treatments, then go from there...

Sisterly,

Soror AKA_Monet

Get HGTV to do it, I lean more towards Candice Olsen from Divine Design. There are a few others I like as well but their names escape me.

I like her style even though I abhor her show. I like the styles of Kenneth Brown (By Design) and Vern Yip (Trading Spaces), even though I can't stand their shows either!

Kenneth Brown is on "reDesign" and I like his style too. HGTV's website has designer portfolios that might give you some ideas.

I like contemporary but simple like this dining room:

and this den:

Good idea, they need more Black people homes to do! I love how Candace Olsen designs, I can not think of many rooms she has done on "Divine Design" I don't like. I watched HGTV all winter break and even got a notebook together.

Soror AKA_Monet I kinda have a budget but I am playing it room by room. I am trying to only splurge for important pieces that really have to be done right. I think an interior designer will be out of my budget, maybe I will win the lotto tonight and it wont matter!
