Everyone on here always has great advice so I thought I'd put this one out there~

My boyfriend and I plan on getting married as soon as we finish college. He is wanting to go into the air force as and officer and an engineer.I think it is exciting, and honorable thing that he wants to do. I did have a hard time with it at first b/c I've never really moved around..and my family and I are really close..but now It's grown on me..and I think It would be great..I'm just trying to figure out what I will do w/ my degree! I'm majoring in nutrition/dietetics and also public relations..so I figured I could get great experience by working in civilian/military hospitals..and I'd also like to work for a fitness magazine (which seems attainable while living over seas)..Anyway I was wondering if any of you have gone through the same thing and how everything has worked out for u!
Thanks!

honestly, it depends.

i know several military couples, and in most cases the non-military spouse is not working... or if working not in his/her field.

like i said it DEPENDS. good luck, and congrats.

My mom worked as a civilian employee for the Army while my dad was enlisted in a similar field. You have a more "useful" degree to them than a lot of spouses do.

same here. my mom actually worked for 3 years overseas after my dad retired, so we were all HER dependants after a while. lol.

Well, while my sister's husband was in the airforce, they were based out of a town that had a HUGE science right down the street from the base. My sister was a bio major, so she worked at the science center as a biologist and moved up the ranks pretty quickly. When she left, she was a co-director (meaning her and another woman ran the entire place between them). So it all worked out, but I doubt it'd be that smooth for every couple.

Is your BF in ROTC right now...if not and he is trying to get an OTS slot....don't count on it...the AF is cutting over 40K slots in the next few years and OTS slots are very hard to come buy...

If he gets in...finding a job as a spouse is not hard...I have a lot of friends that have done this....matter of fact some of them make more money than the military member.
