Question Gift for someone you don't like...?

I have to get a gift for someone I don't particularly like, but out of obligation I need to. Plus, I have already been told that a gift as purchased for me ($30-40 range). Now, it needs to be something that seems like I'm being nice, but I need an idea. Someone else has got to have been in this situation before. What did you do?

Is this a coworker or what? I would say get her something nice but generic, like a gift set from Bath and Body Works or something like that.

Dude, I already told you...make a donation to The Heifer Project in her name. That way she loses and everyone else wins!

I know, I know! All my friends thought that was the best option too.

Wow, and after checking them out, I could adopt a llama!

Gift certificate for a Simon Mall near you, or a restaurant gift certificate to Cheesecake Factory. Can't go wrong with either and they're generic.

A gift certificate to some random generic chain restaurant that everyone at least sort of likes (Chili's, Outback Steakhouse) would probably work too.

Are you looking for an acceptable generic gift or are you looking for a little something that says, "I don't like you; this gifts confirms it to you, but stays just short of proving it to everyone else?" Because the second one is much harder.

I think the best course of action is to just get the nice generic one, but I'm boring like that. I think gift certificates are okay; Bath and Body stuff works, as do fragranced candles, pretty vases, and stuff like that. I also think you could send some Harry and David's thing if you wanted to.

Give me some insight into what the person is like, and I'll work on ideas on the backhanded compliment gift.

The Heifer Internation idea is appealing; who wouldn't want a Water Buffalo partially contributed in your name, particularly if you have a weight problem?

You could also make a donation in her name to the Human Fun.

Seems especially timely, with the whole "Kramer" controversy.

If that's the case, don't forget to wish her a HAPPY FESTIVUS.

My mom vetoed the animal adoption idea, and although I would be so amused and all my friends thought it was awesome (good job centaur532 for the idea!), I actually should find a gift that seems nice. Even after I told my mom I really wasn't going to do it, she still didn't laugh. It's the gift that keeps giving though! It's almost as good as the jam of the month club! (Plus, donating would help someone who does need it.)
