Appropriate gift for a new initiate?
To the lovely ladies of AKA ...
I need your advice on something. I have a very dear cousin (in her early 50's) who will very soon be initiated into a Grad Chapter of AKA in Texas. I will be attending her luncheon and would like to present her with a (very nice!) gift.
Does anyone have suggestions as to what kind of "cost-no-object" gift might be appropriate? (I want to buy her something that will make everyone say "Ooooooo!")
Thanks in advance!

JEWELRY is always good, especially as we get older! I saw some stunning pieces at the Central Regional Conference last week, including several bracelets, necklaces and rings. I will have to get back to you with the names of the vendors and/or their web sites/phone numbers.
BTW, why you gotta put your cousin's biz out there like that, IotaNet??? You just let errbody know that yall got some loose lips in your fam!!!!

I agree that jewelry is always appropriate. Also, maybe you could find an AKA print and have it professionally framed to hang in her home.

All of those are good choices...
I like to purchase PERSONALIZED gifts. You know whatever it is, have their name, chapter, initiating date on the gift...

You know, I never finished this thread properly ...
I want to thank all of the ladies of AKA for your advice and suggestions (on the forum and via e-mail) on the gift for my cousin.
I wanted to tell you that I ended up buying her an AKA Garment Bag and an AKA "Rose Pin" (with the matching earrings!) and yes, all who saw the gifts were appropriately Ooooh-ing and Ahhhh-ing.
Check her out!
Thank all of you again for your assistance!

I was in a similar situation recently. I know that when I was initiated, the one thing I wanted was a shirt, with letters on it. So, that's what I got my sister. Except the t-shirt was salmon pink, and the letters were in rhinestone.
Speaking of rhinestone AKA shirts, has anyone seen that hot mess they're selling on eBay? A TUBE TOP. I would be ashamed to wear/sell/buy that.

Gift Ideas
Hi everyone!!
I'm trying to figure out what greek para to give someone that already has quite a bit. Anything that stands out and just says, we appreciate you. Also, it's for an AKA.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
the price range for that will be between
$100 and $200, more than likely at the upper end
and for a single, I'll say the limit is set at $50, but starting at $30

I love the throws. I have seen a number of them on ebay but prices always vary.
Of course if this is a hardcore para collector she may already have it. There is a website with a wonderful selection of Greek Jewelry but I will have to look around to find that.

gifts
I know she's already been throughly "gifted" - cute pic, but for anyone else who's trying to figure this out........
There are some lovely jewlery boxes [to hold her pin, or for everyday]. These can be found at Greek shops, or online.
Also, I've seen some really nice AKA note cards.
Picture frames w/ letters are great, b/c soon she'll have tons of pics w/ her new Sorors.
