Sorors...Nat'l Family Volunteer Day...What is your chapter doing?
Sorors...
We are all aware of our SPIRIT program theme, and ALL chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated are expected to participate in the National Family Volunteer Day on the 3rd Saturday of November (Nov. 22nd).
What activity is your chapter planning?

We are doing our activity the week before. Our cluster is the 21st and 22nd. From what I remember from our executive committee meeting, (the final presentation will be made at our meeting on Saturday), is that we are doing our annual Thanksgiving baskets and involving our adopted family with an activity along with our tutorial students and their families.
I'm not certain of the final details, but when I get them, I'll give an update.

Our chapter is planning a children's readout on Nov. 22, which is the week after the chapter meeting. Location TBD. We're going to participate in storytelling and hand out books to kids who are present. (I won't be there. I've got other chapter business to handle).

Soror ST...got your PM....we've got the same thing going on here on that particular date.
So, we've opted as a chapter to do our Family Volunteer Day on the Saturday before, Nov. 15. Kappa Gamma Omega will be working with children at the local Salvation Army family support center. We'll also be reading to the children and handing out books.
I think we're still ironing out the final details also.

Our chapter will be hosting our annual "Thanksgiving" dinner at a local facility and packing meals for delivery in the area.

Nothing official as a chapter. A few displaced sorors and I will probably get together and come up with something. Some of us have been itching to create a "satellite chapter". LOL
All is not lost, our chapter will be holding Exec. Comm meeting at my mother's home this weekend. We have not seen each other since the Thursday before Katrina @ our August meeting. Hopefully, next November we will have our programs up and running. The question is, will we have anyone to serve?

I forgot. We will have a new administration, therefore...

We are going to feed approximately 30 or so Hurricane Katrina evacuees who are in San Diego. They are desirous of soul food, so we plan to give it to them.

We got together with our grad chapter and volunteered at a soup kitchen. Me and a few other chapter sorors agreed to step after one of the residents made a request- it was really shsort only two steps. After we helped the kids make a collage of things they were thankful for. good fun

TTT for 2006
Saturday, November 18 is 'National Family Volunteer Day'.
My chapter (Nu Gamma Omega) will be joining hands with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in order to get a low income family home painted. We even purchased pink hard hats from Women Build, a group of Habitat for Huminity. (purchase of the hats are donations that help the women build projects) The hard hats will have an AKA personalized label.

We are doing our NFVD this Sunday, helping to build a playground at one of the local YMCAs, which we partner with.
