Little GoGo's Fall Recruitment

So, the day that I have been long waiting for is about to arrive! My daughter just graduated from high school and is headed for college somewhere in California this Fall. Of course, she is going to rush and I'm cheering her on from the sidelines! I have to admit that I am feeling anxious about the whole thing and she is quite calm about it ... at least for now! Anyway ... stay tuned as "Little GoGo" takes her turn at Formal Recruitment. I won't post the school as I don't want to give it away.

And, yes ... there IS an Alpha Phi chapter on this particular campus ... so I've now narrowed it down to 22 possible schools!

Well ... I'm not asking her a whole lot about it because I don't want her to feel overly pressured. BUT ... I will say that she does like to wear the t-shirts and sweatshirts I bring home from my recruitment advising gig at another school in California. (So ... I've eliminated at least ONE California school for those who even know where in the heck I advise!)

I think she is so focused on her summer activities and spending as much time as possible with her highschool friends that she isn't thinking about it too much. She is cool like that. Takes it as it comes and always positive. I'm the wreck.

I swear it's harder on moms than daughters! - although they would probably disagree. I went through it twice with my daughter and I'm not sure which time was worse, the first time when we both cried (she to her dorm friends and me to my grown-up friends) at the perceived injustice of it all or the second time when she re-rushed and all I could do was hold my breath and think "don't hurt my sweet baby girl." Luckily, it had a happy ending and I hope yours does, too!

Oh how exciting for you and your daughter.

I don't have kids yet, but I'm sure I'll be absolute nervous wreck when my daughter (thinking positive that I'll have a daughter ) goes through recruitment (thinking positive that she would go through recruitment, but with a greek mom, how could she not. LOL).

Are there any other sororities that she is legacy's too? Or just Alpha Phi? How would you feel about her not going Alpha Phi but some other chapter? Sorry, just curious.

She is only a legacy to Alpha Phi. She has an aunt that is Alpha Chi Omega and another aunt that is Kappa Alpha Theta. Those two groups may or may not be on this particular campus. Both aunts have been completely silent on the subject as their own daughters did not choose to affiliate when they went off to school. I hope to Alum Initiate both of them sometime in the future. Is that wrong?

I know enough about this particular Alpha Phi chapter to say that I am confident in their ability to attract her regardless of her legacy status. I am also confident enough in her to be attractive to any group on campus, legacy status or not. I mostly want her to have this experience. I'm sure that when the actual time comes that I will be in recruitment hell if she expresses any interest in any other chapter. But, these emotions pass. If she has a huge smile on her face on Bid Day ... that will make me very happy for her. A mixed answer, but I suspect it is how we all feel when a legacy relative goes through recruitment.

For the record, recruitment can be tough on Dads too! I was Kristen's personal recruitment assistant who helped her learn about recommendations, the recruitment process, individual sororities, etc. I helped her research various contacts and the layout of her resume, but she put everything together and handled the communications herself. I bought her several books pertaining to sororities (I'm sure you all know the titles). Mom helped with the recruitment fashions, though I had to sit through several fashion shows...overall I had a great time and was quite involved throughout the entire recruitment process. You ladies probably know a little about the thread adpiucf set up for me.

Good luck to Littlegogo (love that cute name)! I'm another mom going on the recruitment journey with my daughter.

BamaDad, your daughter had the right person in charge of her recruitment process behind the scenes. Congratulations on a job well done. Your BamaDaughterDZ did her part well too. It was fun to read about it.
