The moment you all have been waiting for.....Details from Jazzfest 2001
Ok, the day started for me at 7:15am on Saturday. I didn't go to bed till 1:30 the night before so I was pretty beat when I went to meet up with Allison and BabeLSU. So anywho, we get started to NO at 8:30 and get to NO in record time. On the way we saw a car that had Honk if you love Dave Matthews. Allison starts honking like crazy cause she was driving. Anyway we stopped by BaBELSU's boyfriend's house cause his mom was going to drive us to the fairgrounds and pick us up afterwards. So we chill at the boyfriend's house for a little bit and all of sudden it's time to go. So it me,Allison,Erin,(Allison's friend) BABELSU,and BABELSU's boyfriend in a midsided car) it was kind of crowded,but that was fun.
So we get to the fairground at exactly 11. the wait in line wasn't to bad,but there were a ton of people waiting when we got there. So we get inside and walk around a bit. We heard this one band that was dressed in full Indian dress. They sounded pretty cool. At first I thought it was going to rain cause it was really cloudy out when we got there. So we listened to the band for a little then we went to get something to eat.
We ate and talked to some nice people from Southern California. After we ate, we went to the Virgin record megastore tent. There was a promotional poster of the Everyday cover so me and Allison took pictures under it. After we left that tent,we walked around some more looking at things that were for sale,then we headed over to the tent where Dave was playing.
OMG! We got over to the tent at around one(Dave wasn't scheduled to play until 5) and there were wall to wall people. It was just unreal the amount of people who were already there. So me,Allison and Erin ended up picking a spot. It was pretty good. They had a jumbo screen nearby so the short people(like me could actually see). As the time grew nearer and nearer,it got more and more crowded. You couldn't move 2 steps without bumping into the person next to you. Then there were stupid people trying to push thur the crowd trying to get to their friends. We kept trying to tell them that there was no room for them to pass and that they had to find some other way to go. But some people obviously do not understand the words: There is no more room. Of course when you let one person pass, you gotta let all 20 of their friends pass too. I was about to hit this one dude cause he had on a VIP pass and he was all like "I've got a VIP pass on so you got to let me pass." My section was like so what. Well somebody was nice enough to let him thur(of course rude boy didn't say excuse me when he was passing and was knocking down people as he passed) So when he passed by me, he liked shoved his VIP pass in my face and said "I have a VIP pass." I'm like "I can read,thank you. Excuse you"
Then there was this big tall fat guy who was dunk out of his mind. He was pushing his way thur the crowd. People were ready to jump on him, cause not only was he trying to push his way thur the crowd, he was being just plain obnoxious as well. We all cheered when that fool got arrested.
Cowboy Mouth played before Dave and they were pretty good. Their song Let It Go is like my new theme song now
Finally it was time for Dave. He came out and everybody went nuts. He stared with Two Step,then played When the World Ends. What would you say came next,then Best of what's around with back up provided by the lovely ladies. Angel came next. By this time people were getting kind of bored. They wanted to hear either Tripping Billies,Crash into Me,or Ants. Well Dave must have sense people's dissatifaction cause he played Tripping Billies next. The crowd goes insane. He slows it down a little and plays Sleep to Dream Her. The crownd went back to being restless because he played Grace is Gone and JTR next. I was jamming my little behind off on those songs. Singing very loud and off-key
I almost died cause after JTR he played If I had it All and that's one of favorite songs off the new album. Then Dave played I Did It crowd goes nuts. After I Did It, he and the lovely ladies start singing Honey,Honey come and dance with me.
At first I thought he was going to start singing #36 because that's how it starts. Instead he breaks out with Everyday. I was so shocked. The lovely ladies did an awesome job singing background. If I didn't like Everyday(the song)before, I love it now. That was a totally awesome version.
Then the intro to Watchtower starts to play and then suddenly the crowed starts screaming and jummping around like mad. That's because Lenny Kravitz had joined Dave on stage and did one of the best versions of Watchtower I had ever heard. So right after Lenny gets off stage, Dave goes yeah give a nice hand to Paul Simon. Paul Simon was playing at Jazzfest the next day and just decided to stop by while Dave was performing to sing Me and Juilo Down by the schoolyard.
The crowd was out of control after that. But you know a few people were about to cry because Dave hadn't played Crash into Me or Ants yet. They almost had their feelings hurt. Luckily,Dave took pity on them and Carter started playing the intro to Ants. There was peace and harmony all thur the Acura tent
So after Ants, Dave goes into Long Black Veil and I swear I tried to out do the lovely ladies. The lovely ladies did an awesome job on that song. The way I was singing, I could have been one
So after that song, Dave leaves the stage and we're all "We want Dave. We want Dave. We want Dave." So Dave comes back out and does Stay and I almost wet my pants(just kidding),but I do love the song. Dave broke out in his cute little dance that he does and Boyd broke a violin string. Stay was jammed out for us. After that Dave left the building and we did too
