Here's a great idea that I brought to our Panhellenic Counsil!
A Chi Omega chapter at a nearby University does something called "Send a Crush".
What you do is you have a table in the student union or you send out a letter to all the greeks on campus. At the table you have forms where a person can purchase CRUSH soda (or any type of soda) for a dollar and specify who they want it delivered to. Then when you deliver the soda (either around campus or at individual fraternity/sorority meetings) you give them the option of paying another dollar to find out who their secret CRUSH was
We couldn't do it because our campus won't let us sell pop (has to be baked goods) . But another sorority adapted the idea for Valentines day and simply had a sheet of paper where you could write a secret note to someone for a buck and then pay a buck to find out who sent it to you .
So you could do that for May Day or just as a Secret Crush event in general.

Another idea is selling phone cards. I haven't done that since High School so unfortunately I can't point you in the right direction of a company, but I'm sure you could do a little research and find something.

Other than that you could do a Bowl-A-Thon with another fraternity or sorority, a silent auction, sell May-Day baskets (I've got a great way to make them, email me for instructions)...those are my ideas. Hope that helps!
Love In Chi Omega,
Hootie

Here at WSU we do Chi-O Kickoff where the fraternities pay an entry fee and compete in a football game. We have 22 fraternities on campus and a lot of involvement so we usually raise a lot of money. Whoever wins gets their fraternities name in the school newspaper.

Hootie,
"Send a Crush" sounds like an awesome and cute idea!!!

Have any of you ever heard about crushlink.com ? Your idea made me think about that. About 3 weeks ago i got an email saying that someone had a crush on me and i would have to go to this link to find out who it was. Turns out i have to put in a list 5 different names on who i think it is and their email. If i guess right then they tell me, otherwise they will send those people i put on my list an email like mine saying "you have a secret admirer, click on the link to find out who it is.."
needless to say i didnt fill out my list, but im still curious on who even put my name down. Okay... im getting way off topic now....

anyway, i loved that idea of yours!!

Post Philanthropy project

Hey ladies,
I'm posting this for a friend of mine who's our community service chair. We are trying to come up with some ideas of how we can raise money for our philanthropy. We tried a dance-a-thon last semester (I think the main problem with that was that we could not get anymore than the $3 per person we charged at the door.) I know other sororities make a lot of money by doing date auctions but we are not allowed to do that. So if you have any ideas please post them so we can have a great project next year. Thanks!!
XO love,
Heather

What great ideas! Thanks so much, I can't wait to pass them on. Oh, and if anyone else thinks of something later on please go ahead and post it. Our next Chi O Care Days won't be until the fall at the earliest. So we have plently of time to gather ideas!
Love,
Heather

Not to get off the subject but that Crushlink.com annoyed me too! I wonder if there really are "crushes" or if that website just sent out thousands of emails to everyone to get them to log on. You have to sign up for some stupid T-shirt service before you can find out a clue to your crush. Sounds like a scam but who knows?

yeah... i also hate crushlink

i wanted a hint about who my crush was so i did all that sign up stuff. I dont remember what they told me, but about 2 days ago they sent me another email asking if i wanted a 3rd hint. So, i went for it and they said that his first name begins with a letter between K and O. Anyway, the whole thing is stupid. I agree, i wonder if there really is a crush!!

Back to the topic of philanthropy events
my house has Kickin it with the Chi Os, a soccer tournament. other greek houses have had softball tournaments and things like that. Sports seem to be the best way to get greeks involved and donating money

Neat idea and I love the theme! Kickin it with the Chi O's! AWESOME!
For a BASIC community service idea, you could do what my chapter does and hold an Easter Egg Hunt. Origionally it was for the whole city in our huge park. But then it was so big the children were limited to one egg. So now we do it for our Nontraditional University and invite professors with children and staff and students. It's fun and the kids load up on those eggs. As a way to reward the parents we stuff some of the eggs with numbers that coorilate with coupons and donated gift certificates.
