Former Negro Leaguer to Bat in Minor League Game
http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/n...ory?id=2523029
Yes, it's a bit of a gimmick, but if anyone deserves to do this, it is Mr. O'Neill. If anything, it is more of a joke that he hasn't been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Say what you will about his merits as a player (more of a Don Mattingly/Keith Hernandez type of player, great fielder and very good contact hitter), but his contributions to baseball over the last half century should more than qualify him for induction.

Yeah - the Hall does its own Negro League wing, but doesn't include the guy who's done the most teaching and important work for the Negro Leagues since integration (not to mention, y'know, basically runs the NLHOF)?
I'm a massive Buck O'Neill For The Hall supporter.

Thank You both for giving Mr. Buck the credit that he is do!
He is supposed to be walked with four pitches, but Buck said He just might swing anyway!!!!
He signed a one night contract which will make him the oldest player of a professional Base Ball Team.
Will find out more on the news to night and report later!

I can see wanting to get in guys like Oscar Charlton, Satchell Paige, Pop Lloyd, and Josh Gibson first, because they really were some of the best pro baseball players ever. However, by this point, O'Neill should be in the Hall. I hope he gets to live to see his induction; something tells me he'd give a GREAT induction speech.

Mr. Buck O'Neil update.
At the age of 94 Buck signed to a 1 game contract made unprecented history. The odlest person to play in a Professional game.
He walked in the first inning after almost being beened by a pitch.
He was then traded to the opposing team and went to bat once again.
He took a swing on the first peach and then was searved up four balls for a pass.
While he did not jog to first base, he shuffled as benefiting a 94 year old Gentleman who should have been inducted into Cooperstown!
Yea Buck O'Neil!
