Recruiting Help, Similar to Expansion Efforts
OK. So I brought forth an option to consider regarding help from the GF on recruiting efforts.
I offer that the membership ask the GF to create and support a recruiting "drive" simialr to that being used for expansion.
By that I mean, using input from the Chapters, Regions, GF and the Institutions, target a Chapter per Region per year or semester and bring the same recruiting efforts used to get a new chapter to expand one that has been identified as a worthy candidate.
I do not want this to turn into a "my chapter should get the help before that chapter" discussion.
Rather, I would like to see criteria for selection, opinions on this type of request (do you think it could work, work at many, some or few chapters, or not work at all), and the process by which the membership would present this request to the GF and Brotherhood as a whole for approval or denial.
Just one brother's opinion. I hope this brings forth good discussions. And do nto forget to ask you chapters for thier opinions. Have them join the forum and share those opinions.

I wholly agree. We should be in a mindset of not only attempting to expand to different areas, but also continuing to build up those chapters which in the grand scheme are weaker.
This idea was actually tossed around last year when it was appearing that my chapter was going to be shut down due to a serious lack of recruitment success. It was proposed by our District Chief that the GF go and send a team in to help aid us in recruiting. Officially because of the fact that the expansion team's schedules were already full for the next year, it was determined that we would not be aided.
It would also be useful, as was eluded to earlier, if other more successful chapters in the nearby region gave help to the recruitment process as well, particularly if they are fairly strong. It can be very difficult to make this occur though, mainly because college students have far less motivation than those who are recieving a paycheck.
In terms of criteria for who should have a team sent to them, I would recommend the following criteria:
1. No reported risk management issues within the last calender year.
2. A chapter size less than half the all-fraternity average at the given school.
3. Consistantly sub-standard recruitment results in relation to the all-mens average at the given school, or a situation where greater than half of the current membership will be graduating within the next year.
4. Recommendation by the EC or district chief for assistance.
Well, that's what I've got for openers.

I like critera #2 and #3.
Saying that a chapter with a risk management issue doesn't deserve to get some help is sort of a double gut punch. A lot of problems can be solved within a chapter by recruiting.
Starty by recruiting quality, social, motivated guys and it perpetuates itself.
Additionally, I have not had the opportunity to work with a EC or DC that really had the energy/time/desire to truely help my chapter. A rec should be a flag that a chapter needs help, but not a criteria for getting help.

Good
OK. We have some common ground. And further discussions will solidify the requirements.
Now, how do we present this to the Brotherhood as whole for consideration?

Oldest Pledge I have just deleted my long reply to your good idea and will send you a PM instead. I have decided this site is not the place to discuss this (because of this site, not because of anything to do with Beta), but I hope we can work together on your initiative.

Just back from an emergency trip out west (family funeral). I had seen the long post before you deleted it while waiting at the airport. You should have left it. I found it to be genuine in intent to support Beta Theta Pi and honest as to an approach to provide some chapters with support.
It was worth leaving to assist in the discussion of how we can provide assistance in growth to those chapters that need assistance.

I would also be curious as to how the GF would find time for their staff members to participate in this venture.
