A Question: Is this how it is suppose to feel?

I know that I have recently posted on this message board. But basically, aside from membership questions. All I want to ask is this:

Did wanting to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha make you lose sleep at night? Is it suppose to bring tears to your eyes because you know how bad you want it but you are not supposed to tell anyone (according to others)? Is it something you want more than so many things in life? Is it something you want so you wanted so that you can become a positive example to the society? Was it something you wanted because you have seen so many great women who have earned the honor of wearing those letters? Did you want it because the women you have seen seem to value things that you hold dear? Did you want it because their service to the community is so remarkable and noteworthy?

I am a hard worker. I am already an active member of many organizations on my current campus. I love to help others because it makes me feel better as a person. I respect individuals who try to help others. Sometimes showing a little help can make a huge difference in others lives. I will always remember the woman who had faith in me when I was in elementary school. The woman who told me I could be more than just another statistic. Help from others has helped me become who I am today.

But aside from this question I also have another questions as well:

I want to create a program that will help single parents in our area. I am in the local chapter of NAACP, but I do not know if it would be wise to present this idea to them because they are having a hard time with other tasks. I was planning on making money to start this program by publishing a book of poetry. Currently I have over one hundred pages of typed poetry on my computer, and many others in notebooks. Do you think this would be a good idea, and if so how would I get started?

There are other threads that address this in the AKA Ave. And I think your life needs to be more than pursuing letters.

IMHO, no, it should not hurt that bad and your sleep should not be deprived. That is a mental illness and you need help for that. Pursuing discretion is what we are talking about. Blabber mouthing to every Tom, Dick and Harry--or Sally, Sue and Mary. We cannot allow that to happen, you will not be an EFFECTIVE, STANDARD, PERSEVERING member if an invite were extended to you. You would be giving you all for a year or so, then be burnt out. We are talking lifetime membership... So, when you are ready, and you have the time, it NEVER hurts so much that it is unbearable. Besides, it is considered hazing if you hurt that much and lose sleep over it...

I think if you have some school supporters who are faculty to assist you, that would be a wonderful idea. They can assist you with the publication, critiquing, and other editorial items needed. Then try to have an event at the single parent groups that you are familiar with and make a monetary goal of making it happen. Remember collaboration and partnership assists people.

Now you are on the borderline asking these kinds of question that cause us to worry about your health... We do not want to push you over the top where you to become ineffective at anything. So I am going to lock this thread and I hope you can glean enough information from what I said as well as others here and good luck in your endeavors.
