Wink Your place on the yard?

Greetings all,

I have noticed more so on HBCUs that when a fraternity or sorority does not occupy a house on campus that they have little ares representing them on the yard, where they meet up and hang out. Whether it be a plot, a hill, a painted tree, bench, porch, wall, light post. What was yours on your campus?
Also did people respect it as yours?

Peace and Love :-)

Our place on the yard was a plot(the largest on campus)outside of the rec building. We had the wall painted white with blue letters (Zeta Phi Beta Sigma symbols), and the sidewalks painted as well, one for Sigma, one for Zeta. We had the trees painted and benches sitting around them. Most everyone did respect it as ours-since it was outside the rec, we didn't mind who sat on it, as long as they did not trash it.

I go to a PWI and we do not have plots or anything that can be decorated. Is this something that the university just lets the students do? We do have benches and trees, etc. and I have always wanted to paint and designate an area for Zetas. We do get offices and carol spaces though, but it is not the same as being outside on the actual "yard."

Question

How does a chapter go about getting a plot, etc on campus? Is this practice more common on HBCUs?

I'd tentatively say yes, because I've only seen plots at HBCUs. At the PWI I graduated from, Sororities and Fraternities had rooms, not houses. The BGLOs generally decorated the alcove and doorways to their rooms more ... shall we say.. vibrantly than their GLO counterparts, but every organization painted their doorway with the symbols/insignia of their respective organizations.

I attend WSU, and I believe that there are more Zetas and Sigmas than any other GLO out here. WE DO RUN THE YARD!!! Everyone knows who we are, and we love to help out with the school community. There's alot of AKA's (and they are catchin' up to us), but we STILL RUN IT!!!
That's all I gotta say....
