kellisorority's spring07 recruitment thread
Hi guys! I've been lurking on this site for quite a while... and finally decided to post and make my own thread.
I'm a freshmen and we just had our first day of rush! We have 8 sororities and I've been told that 247 people registered to rush.
Basically this is our schedule. We have 4 rounds/8 sororities.
Wed- Round 1 Day 1 (visit 4)
Thurs- Round 1 Day 2 (visit 4)
Fri- Philanthropy Night (can attend max of 6)
Sat- Skit Night (can attend max of 4)
Sun- Preference (can attend max of 2)

GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted, it's so interesting!
I'll be cheering for Kappa Alpha Theta, but of course go w/ what's best for you (like you'd choose it based on random old me!).

CHANEL
GABBANA
OSCAR
PRADA
DIOR
BURBERRY
ARMANI
BETSEY
So tonight at 9:30 we find out which houses are inviting us back, and if all 8 houses do, we're sopposed to cut 2.
I'm def cutting ARMANI because when i went to open houses and also round 1 the conversation was just lacking... and it seemed like I was trying to keep the conversation alive and just awkward.
Now this is the hard part. I'm narrowed it down to either BETSEY or PRADA. Except I hope this is acceptable to say but PRADA's house it like 90%+ jewish, and I feel like since I'm not it would be the smart move to just cut PRADA? I know this may be a bad reason, but I'd def feel left out if the majority of the house is jewish. But I def feel that I had okay conversation. Now, BETSEY I think maybe I had "worse" conversation with them then compared to PRADA. But it was still just the first day... and I don't know what to do. HELP ANYONE? PRADA seems to be a better developed house and like knows what it's doing and they have their own website and stuff. They where the first sorority on my campus. So I just feel they're probably better organized. But I think I was dissapointed by BETSEY. Some people have told me that it's the most underrated house, and I met a few who seemed okay.
I was automanically set on just dropping PRADA just because of the whole religion thing, (because I know some girls who are dropping houses because it is majority catholic, and she would be like the only jewish person there.) Is this a legit reason to drop a house? And I def feel like that's not fair.
Also, when I was at BETSEY the first girl I talked to.. I asked her what her philanthrophy is and she didn't know and had to ask someone else.
I NEED HELP PLEASE! I have like less than a hour to deciede!
So far I'm ranking it as this...
OSCAR
DIOR (interchange w/ Oscar)
BURBERRY
GABBANA (interchange w/ Burberry)
CHANEL
?
?
ARMANI

Um, what's the point of coding the sororities if you're just going to give us a who's who?
[I didn't bother quoting you because you might want to edit your post]
Good one.

Just for clarification, it's not against the rules to reveal names. Most people choose not to do so for discretion purposes. Revealing as much info as you want is totally your choice -- but just remember that when it's not done tactfully, it could potentially hurt your chances of getting a bid.
Even if I didn't see the sororities and their code names before you edited your post, I can definitely tell which houses you're talking about already just by what you've posted.
Remember that you can still be honest and discreet at the same time.

Yeah, I don't know why I screwed up because I could of sworn I looked at other people's posts and they had both stuff up there. Or maybe I'm just hallucinating. Ah. This is bad.... less then 30 minutes.

Even though I didn't see the unedited posts I have an idea which sorority Prada is (but I'm not saying anything).
Religion is very touchy. From the sounds you aren't Jewish, so I can understand why you might be uncomfortable in a house that has primarily girls who are Jewish, but remember there are going to be sisters who aren't Jewish. And just because they are doesn't mean they wouldn't be great sisters.
I have to say go with who you felt most comfortable with at the houses. Which house did you have great conversations with. Which house did you really like the sisters. Which house did you really see a bond between the sisters.
As for the religion issue, I guess it really depends how religious you are and how much it matters to you.
My best advice is follow your heart.

I would suggest waiting to see how your invites come back before you make a final decision. At any of the houses with less than stellar conversation, you could have just ended up with a new rusher or a relatively unskilled one. Your conversation on another day could be much better.
Don't listen to other people's impressions. What really matters is your connection with the sisters.
Instead of stressing over it now, I'd say since you have a pretty good idea of how you feel, go get your invites and make your decision there if necessary. When you aren't trying to second guess yourself, and you have to choose quickly, I think you'll do better.

From wht you have written it sounds like everything is better at Prada than at Betsey. Religion shouldn't play into it and it sounds like a pretty easy decision to me.
Now if you only get invited back to 6 it's a moot point.......

It's best not to worry about who you will cut until you get your invites back. Depending on the # of sororities that ask you back, you might not have to cut anyone.

Yeah, I agree with the others...worry about who to cut if that situation arises. You might be invited back to the magic number each time. If you try to decide first, you might set yourself up for disappointment. Best of luck! Let us know how it goes!

I am sure that I am answering this question after the time you have to make you decision. I was in the opposite situation as you. I am Jewish. There were no Jewish houses on campus in those days. When I pledged, I was 1 of 2 Jewish girls in my house. I have never regretted my decision ( I had a problem with a Born Again Christian who pledged 2 years after me and was irate that I would not convert). I am president of my Alumnae Association for the 3rd year, have applied to work on the National Level. No one else has ever made an issue of religion.

i agree with daffykd. we had several jewish members when i was in college-frankly, it was not an issue at all. they were excused from events if they occured during a jewish holiday.
