promoting...
Hi i'm a member of a local sorority at Ithaca College. Well, technically social greek life is not accredited by the college, only academic and music fraternities are. Currently there are 2 fraternities and 2 sororities and i'm a member of the Little Sisters of one of the frats. Tech. one of the frats was able to stay national (Phi Kappa Sigma) when Ithaca declared no national and then no social frat life on campus. Our numbers are small (for all of us) so my question to all of you is how do you suggest promoting our sorority on campus? Currently, we have 5 actives, 3 who are graduating this spring and we have two rushes (who will be initiated soon, we can't wait to have them as sisters). It's hard for all of the greeks to put their names out there because we can be judicially referred on campus for soliciting. So it's kind of a sticky situation. One idea i have suggested to my pres. is that we throw an all greek party, meaning we put all of the greeks letters on a flyer and throw a party at one of the clubs/bars downtown. that way its easy on everyone's treasury and it helps promote all of us. Also, since we do have to be so secretive, it allows all of us to actually meet who else on campus is part of a social frat. Any ideas would be wonderful. THANKS!

With all due respect, a "little sister" organization is NOT a sorority. If you would like to create a local sorority from your "big brother" fraternity, then it is understandable. There are some locals out there who have done that (just off the top of my head, I'm thinking of Chi Delta, which was a Delta Chi "little sister" group before becoming a local sorority). Oncer again, "little sister" group does NOT equal sorority.

I don't think that's what she is saying at all - I think she's saying she's a member of one of the two local sororities AND a little sister group. Many people do both.

That's what I'm getting too. I agree, "little sister" organizations are NOT sororities! And, I'm really confused about the situation; you can't have national groups, but one of the frats is still national? And you can't have social greek life, so are the 4 other groups service, academic, what?

Some fraternities allow chapters to exist without formal university recognition.
