Worst date ever: Went to dinner with a guy I met at my cousin's wedding. The night started out nice -- he brought me flowers and took me to a great restaurant. He wanted to order calamari as an appetizer and I told him to feel free to order it for himself, but that I didn't really care for squid. So he ordered some for himself and, when it arrived, offered some to me. I politely turned it down which resulted in him snapping, "Well, I'm paying for it, so you'd better eat it!"

It went downhill from there. During dinner, he proudly regaled me with stories of how he got his first 2 DUIs and how he started chewing tobacco at the ripe old age of 8. Then, after dinner when I excused myself to use the ladies' room (and try to figure out how to end the night politely but quickly), he reached out and grabbed my rear as I was walking past his chair.

After dinner, I told him that I needed to get home, but he kept pushing and pushing until I finally agreed to have ONE drink at a bar that was on the way from the restaurant to my apartment. We went in, ordered a drink, and then, as I was standing next to the bar, I felt this hand creeping under my skirt. I slammed my drink down and told him to take me home. He agreed without any argument this time and I thought, by this point, he was aware that I was 200% NOT interested. However, when we got to the door of my apartment, I realized that the only reason he'd agreed to leave the bar so quickly was because he thought he was coming to my place to spend the night! He's trying to get in the door, I'm trying to close the door... luckily my male roommate was home and saw what was going on. Thankfully, he intervened and offered to walk my date-from-hell out to his car.

Two days later, I got an e-mail from the guy, inviting me to his place for dinner. When I flatly refused, his response was, "Is this because I touched your a$$? I'm sorry, but I just couldn't control myself."

Best Date Ever: About three years ago, my boyfriend and I made plans to go on a boat ride on his lake. I met him at the dock after work and found him waiting with a bottle of wine and two glasses. We floated out to the middle of the lake and sipped wine while watching the sun begin to set. Then, out of nowhere, he presented me with a little white jewelry box and asked me to marry him. It doesn't get much better than that.

Worst date ever:

My brother went to one college in town, and I went to another. He was one year ahead of me. Some guy on his dorm floor was looking through my brother's high school yearbook and found me in there and told my brother he wanted to go out with me. Never met me, just saw my yearbook pictures. He proceeded to borrow the yearbook, and memorize every club I was in. He started calling me and asking me out. I have never been very good at just being blunt about these things so I just would always be "too busy." Of course he is telling me that my brother said we would be great together blah blah blah. My Own brother! Finally after he stalked me for literally a month - calling probably 10 times a day and me NEVER answering the phone I told my brother to make him go away. My brother said if I would just go on one date with him he thought he would get the hint and take a hike. So, I agreed. He took me to Casa Bonita. Do any of you have this restaurant? It is an all-you-can-eat Mexican place where you have a flag pole on your table that you raise every time you want a new plate of food - not really a date place. So, he complains that I am not making the most of it because I ate only 1 plate of food, as he proceeds to order probably 5 plates. The conversation consisted of things like, "on page 64 of the yearbook you are in the National Honor Society so you must be really smart. On page 108 you are on the volleyball team, you must be really athletic." It was too creepy for words. He had memorized everything about me. To top it off, he realizes that he has forgotten his wallet and I need to pay for dinner. He actually had the audacity to ask me out again. This time I had no problem being blunt.

Worst date:

It was actually with my first boyfriend. We had went out to dinner, and he just goes on and on about how much he likes me. He thinks that I am so beautiful, blah blah blah... Me being oblivious at the time just was happy at the flattering comments. Well after, we decide to go for a drive around town. We start talking about our relationship together. Then he starts asking me these really sexual questions. First I was like "I am not comfortable with this". He said that they were just questions and not too worry. Looking back I know that I should have known what he was getting at. But like I said he was my first boyfriend, so I was inexperienced. Anyway, I reluctantly start answering questions. Finally, our drive ends at the beach. It was late, so it was pretty deserted. We were sitting on the sand and I was starting to feel more comfortable again. Then he reaches over and starts to kiss me. That was okay with me, but then he started to put his hands all over me and before I know it, he is on top of me. I started yelling and demand that he gets off of me. He won't and I freak cause he starting to get way too physical. I start to cry, so he gets frustrated and gets off of me. He then yells at me about leading him on and said that I should not have talked about sexual things him. I turned him on and he was ticked that I could not finish what I started. Obviously this resulted in us breaking up. He was actually shocked when I said that I did not want to see him anymore.

I will post my best date later. I gotta get ready for class!!

My friend Brian was dating Kelly and they set me up with her friend Jen and we go on double date to karaoke night and no one drinks b/c only Brian was 21 and was driving (it was a bad idea to begin with) and I was bored by this girl's lack of personalilty so I offer to sing duet with her she declines so I sing "Tainted Love" by myself and when I get to the "touch baby tainted love, touch me" part, three drunk girls from another table get up and start groping at me. That pretty much sucked ass as the one time that works I'm on another date and can't ditch b/c I need a ride back to campus and we were like 30 mins by car away.

Best date:

Was the Delta Zeta mixer my last semseter at R.U. She was a knockout, but it didn't work out. Still though, I had more fun talking with her that night than I've ever had on a tradtional date. really.

worst:
Not so much as a date but as an experience. My senior year of HS, I went on this youth group retreat with my best friend. I met this guy Mark there whom I became good friends with. We started talking a lot online and stuff and got really close. One day, one of my friends sent me one of those idiotic surveys that you have to send blank to your friends and they fill it out about you. I sent it out to a bunch of my friends and we all took it as a complete joke and stuff. Well Mark was one of the friends that got the survey. Naturally, I expected that he'd take it as a joke and have fun with it. What I got back was more like a proclamation of his undying love for me. The entire thing was about how beautiful I am, how much he loves my smile, how he's never met anyone like me, and all that crap. At this point I realized that our friendship was pretty much fucked, and my best friend was like "he's nice, give him a chance" so I decided to go out with him. The actual relationship only lasted exactly two weeks. He was the most boring guy ever and I was totally not interested and he annoyed me. It was clear that he really liked me and I felt bad so I decided to break up with him. I told him that it wasn't fair for him to have a girlfriend who didn't care about him as much as he cared about her. His response? That's ok, I can deal with that. It took me 2 hours to convince him that yes it was really over, yes I was sure, no I was not going to change my mind, etc. Now I can understand him being upset had there been a long relationship, but we were only together for two weeks and only went out once during those two weeks. So after we finally broke up, I thought that was over. How wrong I was. He started writing me poems and emailing them to me about how my smile is the sun and he needs the sun to live and can't go on without it (no, really) and stuff like that. So I blocked him. He gave my screenname to his best friend and had his friend im me. I blocked him. Several guys on his tennis team somehow got my screenname. Blocked them too. Freshman year of college he started emailing me again. This time he also made a new screenname that he could im me from. Blocked that. So he had his "girlfriend" im me and tell me that she thinks I should talk to him. Umm yea ok. If you have a girlfriend, what is the chance that she's going to im your ex and ask her to talk to you? Finally I got desperate and had one of my guy friends im him pretending to be my boyfriend and tell him to leave me alone. At this point Mark got jealous and possessive and started threatening to come to my school with the entire tennis team and beat up my friend. When the day was finally over, I had about 7 new sns added to my block list. I thought that he and I were finally through but alas I was wrong. One day my sophomore year of college he started iming me from more of his friends sns and telling me how he needs me back and I'm the best he's ever been with etc. (Once again, mind you that we were only together for two weeks.) This added a couple more sns to my block list. Thank G-d not long after that we got rid of AOL and I changed my sn so now he doesn't know it any more. I am now a senior in college. About a month ago I got the following message on my answering machine. "Hi Masha this is Mark. I'm in grad school now. Give me a call, we'll hang out sometime."

The worst part is that my mom doesn't even get it. Up until I started seeing my current boyfriend, my mom was always like "why did you break up with Mark? he was such a nice boy."

worst date: (it's long, but it's worth the read, I promise)

After my divorce I wanted to date a lot after being out of the scene for 10 years, so I did the Yahoo personal ad thing. At that time, you didn't have to pay anything for it. So, one guy replies to my ad and we chat online a lot. He has a 15 year old that he has custody of, seems like a really nice guy. He didn't have a picture. We finally agree to meet at a local restaurant for dinner. His last words to me before the date were "I'm usually wearing a denim baseball cap" .. first red flag!

So, I'm waiting to turn left into this restaurant and see a car with two people in it turn right into the parking lot. One of them is wearing a cap. I think "odd, two people wearing baseball caps at the same restaurant?" I don't see them exit their car because I'm parking. I take a minute to check the makeup and go into the restaurant. I walk in and start to look around to see if anybody with a denim cap is there. Near the door, a man is waving to me. It's hard to tell his cap is denim because it's covered with grease (like mechanics oil grease.. black). I look at him, note he has very long very greasy hair coming out from under that cap, but he's obviously the person I'm there to meet because he's waving me over. He is wearing a jean jacket that is as filthy as his hat. He gives me a big grin and is missing 3 front teeth. I am already trying to figure out how quickly I can get out of there.

I then notice that there is someone else at his booth. His 15 year old son is sitting across from him in the booth. This fine young man has a mohawk and numerous piercings and is just as filthy as his father. I start to panic.. Where am I supposed to sit? Next to Dad? Next to Son? I decide next to Dad, but I'm afraid something will crawl out of his sleeve so I sit as far on the edge of the booth that I can, like half on the seat, half off. I am frantic in trying to figure out how to get through this "date".

We chat while waiting for our food. I have been looking for a house so I can move out of my ex-husband's house. I tell a little about my house hunting experiences and Junior pipes up "You should just get a good double wide". They spend some time telling me about Junior's brother who doesn't fit in with the family at all because he gets good grades, is going to college, likes classical music and art and stuff like that. He doesn't even like Nascar. He chose to live with Mom though because he was such a freak.

Topic of Junior's mohawk comes up. Dad says "I was real mad when I came home and he had that haircut". I say "I worked at *** Hospital on the adolescent psych unit and if the worst thing he's doing is cutting his hair weirdly, then he's doing alright". Dad says "YOU worked there? HE (pointing to Jr.) was there in February!" (I was still there in February, but worked outpatient and Junior had been inpatient). Junior then tells me about this awesome riot that he and two other boys started.. I remember this riot, a security guard was hurt, they injured one of the nicest nurses I've ever met. Yes, my biggest nightmare, a former patient, not a nice depressed suicidal one, but an oppositional defiant disorder former patient, on a date with me and his dad.

As soon as I finished my dinner, I got the hell out of there. Dad kept trying to IM me, but I ended up blocking him. He didn't understand why I didn't think the date went well. I pulled my personal ad off of Yahoo and didn't use it again until it was a paying service, at which time I met more guys who were more my style.

Best date ever: When my ex husband and I were dating, in the summer, we would drive around to different festivals and ride every ferris wheel we could find. We had a blast

Worst date ever: before my freshman year in college, this guy I knew who was about to go to the Naval Academy asked me to go see a movie with him. I was doubtful because I'd heard he was out for one thing, despite being really nice in school, but my mom pressured me to go--"after all, Navy accepted him, you should go!"

His movie of choice: Gone With the Wind. His location of choice: the drive-in. Have you ever spent 3 hours fighting somebody off?

And my mother's response, when I came stomping in, was,"Gee, that sounds like the time my father talked me into going out with this guy who was about to go to West Point and all evening he tried to grab me." Arrggghhh! So she turns around a generation later and pulls the same thing on me?

Best dates ever: so many with Mr. Carnation......

Worst date ever: The last date with my psycho ex. It was the weekend after Valentine's Day, and we were supposed to be going out to dinner, just the two of us, for V Day. At the last minute he asks me if it's ok if we go out as a group with some of his friends. I was annoyed, because it was supposed to be just the two of us, but I said ok. STUPID.

His friends insisted on going to a bar. I was the only one in the group who wasn't 21, and I'm not a big fan of bars anyway (too noisy and smoke-filled - at the time you could still smoke in bars), so I suggested that we go to a restaurant instead, and whoever wanted to drink could drink. But no... it had to be a bar. And the ex wanted to go with them, even though he was supposed to be spending the evening with me and I wouldn't be able to get into a bar, and he doesn't even drink. By this time I was pretty pissed at him. So I said, "Go be with your friends. You want to spend Valentine's Day with your friends instead of your girlfriend, fine." And I walked away.

Instead of going with his friends, he followed me back to campus. I tried to ditch him on the T... didn't work. I tried to ditch him while walking across campus... didn't work. Nothing worked until I got back to my dorm... he wasn't a resident, so he couldn't get in unless I invited him, and needless to say, I did not invite him in.

It wasn't too long after that, that he dumped me by IM because I wouldn't convert to his religion. Didn't even have the cojones to break up with me in person. Thus I fell victim to the AEPhi Valentine's Day Curse.

I guess I got off light in the bad-date department.

Best date: So many dates with my husband... there's no one "best date" that stands out. The spontaneous ones are the best. Back when we were living in Boston, we would grab sandwiches and a bottle of wine and go have a picnic on the esplanade. Or we'd go out for a walk, and randomly decide, "Hey, we're out, we're in the middle of Boston, let's have lunch somewhere nice."

Once I met THE ONE, everything else was a distant memory. All the dates before my West Point Cadet (GEN Alum) were just a blur....
