cheap hotels...help!!!! Going to Atlanta

Anyone use Priceline or something similar to book hotels? If so what kind of luck did you have? Tips? Advice? Info?

I'm going to Atlanta with a friend very soon--from March 18-21. I want to save whatever kind of $$ I can.

If not through Pricline....what sites give the best rates? I know from traveling to other cities it is cheaper to stay outside the city or in a suburb or whatever...but I also don't want to book blindly and end up in a bad area. So if I were to stay in a suburb or whatever, where should I stay? Advice please!

Thanks!

Whenever I visit Atlanta & I'm trying to stay in a cheap hotel I stay in a Super 8 or Motel 6. It is cheaper to stay in Marietta or Decatur & they really aren't that far outside of Atlanta.

Use the Super 8 or Motel 6 web sites to book them. You pay practically nothing & they are super cheap!

how picky are you about what the place looks like? I'm from Marietta, and there are some decent hotels around here. If you dont want raunchy, your gonna have to cough up a little money, but a couple of places I would reccommend are:

Anything Cobb Galleria/Vinings area

Be careful of some places in Smyrna....Delk Road, Franklin Road and most of Smyrna are the "bad" areas. Cobb Galleria/Vinings area is nice, as well as Buckhead area (but buckhead is expensive)

Hyatt Regency Suites Perimeter Northwest is a GREAT place - its actually within walking distance of my apartment; its a great area. Right across the street theres TONS of restaraunts to choose from: Fuddruckers, a mexican place, Schlotzsky's Deli, Uncle Vitos pizza, Houstons (a steak place) Fridays, um...some BBQ place, dont remember the name of it, and Frontera TexMex Grille.

on travelocity.com says its going from $99 a night.

before you book the hotel, try looking at tripadvisor.com

I find most of the reviews to be honest. I've skipped out on some hotels because of the reviews of how awful the hotel is.

eta: try kayak.com
it searches every website basically out there at once. its awesome.

Ok, I live Smyrma. Albeit in the Cobb Galleria/Vinings area but Smyrna nonetheless. There are some areas that aren't wonderful but I wouldn't classify them as "bad" areas. Those parts of Smyrna don't have hotels. Delk Road and Franklin are Marietta...not Smyrna. Also, I would never consider Delk Road to be the "bad" part of town.

Anyway, to find a less expensive hotel, you'll need to venture outside the Atlanta perimeter. Anything nice in the Midtown/Downtown/Buckhead area will cost you a lot. The best place to stay is in the Circle 75/Cobb Galleria area. It's right off of I-75 so it's a short trip into the city. The area is nice and the hotels are affordable. I had to stay in one of them last summer when our air conditioner broke and it wasn't too expensive.

I will investigate. The hotels or whatever I found on Delk didn't seem terrible...I'll keep looking...thanks for the input

So we're trying to save as much $$$ as possible...there's one listed on Hotwire in the Vinings area that is $29.....should I risk it? Retail price was $55...advice please!

Vinings is a good area. 2 star hotels...eh, says its comparable to days inn and la quinta. probably a decent bed, hot water, hopefully no roaches. Should be fine. Whats the worst that could happen? Okay, dont answer that =)

I work at a hotel now...

and some of the best ways to get a good deal are to call the hotels directly and talk to someone there, they will most likely give you the best rate they can. If you go through priceline and other sites they charge a fee on top of your hotel cost and there is no wiggle room once you get there. To find the hotel phone numbers just go to their main web site and do a search for the area and write down the numbers while you look at what the hotel has to offer. good luck!
