Wedding Traditions for sisters

I need help! I am a bridesmad in in my little sister's wedding, and her biological sister (and maid of honor) is also a Chi O. We were trying to think of traditions that are part of teh wedding celebration.

I know one that is just a silly chapter thing we do, but what are the "normal" traditions?

(Sad to say I know more of the Kappa Sig traditions that the brothers do than my own sorority!!!) Please help a sister out!

Welcome to the board BigHooter!

I just got married and unfortunatly, we didn't do anything exciting. Only a handful of sisters were able to attend, so they didn't want to sing. I think that's the only real tradition I've heard of. Often the Chi Os circle the bride, or bride and groom, and sing Shades at the reception.

I pinned my badge to the ribbon that was on my flower stems. I was afraid it would dig into me if I pinned it inside my dress over my heart and I didn't wear a garter (plus I would feel wierd about pinning it there and it could easily fall off and she wouldn't know).

I also know some chapters embroider a hanky with our letters and her inititation date or initials or whatever for her to use when she tears up.

Good luck!

weddings...sniff...make me cry!

I went to a sister's wedding this past Saturday (she married a wonderful, classy Kappa Sig)... and we did the Chi-O circle and sang "Shades" and "To you lovely lady".... sniff... it was hard to get through it I was all emotional!

I vaguely remember several traditions being posted on the MSN Hooties page, but I haven't read/posted there in over a year, and have no idea if those posts are still accessible...worth looking into though, if you really want to learn about more traditions!

In my chapter we gave our little sis a white hankerchief on her initiation day, and it's embroidered with her name, initiation date, and our letters in gold or silver. The idea is that you'll tuck it in your garter when you get married.

I've also heard of brides putting a white carnation into their bridal bouquet (this probably only works if your whole bouquet is white), and I've definitely been a part of some fabulous chi o singing at various weddings, but I think the hanky thing is my favorite!

Talking Rowdy!

I guess we are a bit more "rowdy" at Chi O weddings- we circle the bride and groom and sing Shades, then break out with "Hair of Gold and Eyes of Blue...." then our finale is the cheer! Every single wedding I've been to and been in - the crowd absolutely loves to watch the show!!!

Talking

my chapter usually does either a candle passing or we just encircle the bride and sing Shades. We sometimes also sing "Chi-O Home" which is a rush song. I forget the name of the original song it's from.

I think of it as more of a song (it's an oldie!):

HAIR OF GOLD

She has hair of gold and her eyes are blue and her cheeks are rosy too.
And on her chest she wears the crest of the X and the ole' horseshoe.
She ran around with every frat in town, many hearts were broken when she turned 'em down.
She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world; she's a Chi-O girl!

Now, when she pledged she was very young, but old enough to know.
That the bestest frat in the whole wide world was her very own CHI-O!
She finished school and got her degree, now she's president of her company.
She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world, she's a Chi-O girl!

(Older version): She finished school and married a fella' , now she's knittin' booties of red and yella'.
She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world; she's a Chi-O girl!

They might! I remember at the 100th anniversary State Day we had a Centennial Chorus with members from all the MI chapters. I think the sheet music we got was from HQ and that's where we learned Hair of Gold - though they only had the first verse.
