Siblings pledging different organizations??
Hi everyone,
I was wondering...have you ever experienced siblings pledging different organizations? By that I do mean same sex obviously. If you have what are your general thoughts about such a situation? Is it common? Are siblings expected to follow in the footsteps of their sibling? Is anyone against it...if so why? I'm just curious...

A sibling (as well as certain other relatives) is considered a legacy and some orgs do have legacy clauses.
However, I have always felt that an individual should pursue the organization that is right for THEM and should stand on their own merits when applying. If different orgs are represented, I just think of it as diversity, which is always a good thing.

Yes, when I was an undergrad, the pres. of the Black Student Assoc., was interested in pledging Omega but did not, presumably out of respect for his brother, who was a Kappa declinded to pledge in my chapter. But later he did pledge Omega in a grad chapter.
One of my LBs little brother pladged Alpha at my Alma Mater.
I would like my son--when I have one!--to follow in my footsteps and become an Omega man--and that become a family tradition. But the decision would ultimately be up to him. I have talked with a brother who told his son, whose roomate and circle of friends at college were Sigmas, that if he pledged PBS, not to come home again. He was serious! Some Greeks do have very strong feelings about this issue in general.

That's harsh. LOL!!!!
If I ever have a daughter, I would hope that she'll want to pursue Delta, after growing up around Delta. BUT, if she chooses another organization, I won't trip. I won't pay for it, but I won't trip.

what will my kid be
My sister in law & all the women in her family are members of AKA. If and when I have a daughter (because my husband is a boy maker ) she will have a choice of whatever BGLO she wants, the catch to that is, I’m only paying dues to DELTA! I have respect for all BGLO, but the likely hood of my husband giving me a girl is slim to none, so She will be a DELTA, a GDI or find some other way to pay for it! I know most of you may not agree, but it’s my child and my money! However, If I feel she is not DELTA material... She will stay a GDI! I love her, but being a legacy does not guarantee you a place. Now when she is an Alumnae, she can do whatever...maybe!

How could your daughter not want to be a Delta.
