Pi Chi (Rho Chi/Rho Gamma)
I am incredibly excited to have been chosen as one of next fall's Pi Chis and I was looking for any advice from those of you who have been Pi Chis or anyone who had an amazing Pi Chi.
Thanks!
EDIT: I'm at a southern school with a relatively competitive rush, if that helps at all!

This thread might be of some interest.
That's just one thread, but I'm sure there are many others in the Rush forum. Just don't forget to include the asterisk (*) when doing searches for words with less than 4 letters.
Judging from your posts already, I know your affiliation and somewhat of a clue as to what school you're at. It might be a good idea to keep your specifics at a bare minimum until after your school's recruitment is over. The last thing you want is someone in your group to wonder "I wonder if that's the girl from GreekChat?" You know, just to keep things fair and Panhellenic.

Or you might want to post under another screen name while you are a recruitment counselor to help you keep your affilation and school private.
Anyway, congrats on your role with Panhellenic! Here's what I wish I'd known before I became a recruitment counselor:
* After recruitment events and in the wee hours of morning, they need to leave their cell phones on. Tell them this when you meet them that they need to be accessible by phone to you in case of a schedule change. Schedule changes may occur and nothing is more heartbreaking than trying to reach an unmatched PNM on Bid Day to tell her not to come... only for her to show up and break down.
* Provide notepads and pens to allow your PNM's to record their observations after they attend parties. This will help them remember names and events. Collect the notepads at the end of each day.
* If a PNM is late to an event, send her into the party. Otherwise, she'll be cut from that party.
* Discourage tent talk or badmouthing a GLO. Talk about discretion.
* Don't give the girls more information than they need. If they show up at Greek Forum and you're telling them about snap bids and quota, they'll be very confused. I'm not saying to withhold anything, but recruitment can be very confusing to the newbie--- they don't need all the technical details. Provide them first with a general overview of the week and do specifics each day. They don't need to know terms like "cross-cut" or a firm talk about "single individual preferencing" until Bid Matching, if at all.
*Keep water and cereal bars on hand for your PNM's-- they may be too nervous to eat and forget to hydrate themselves. Remind them to eat.
* Keep large plastic ziploc bags for each PNM that she can use to hold her make-up and other materials-- that you can hold for her.
* Know the basics about each sorority
* Know the basics about recruitment rules
* Enjoy your fellow recruitment counselors. This is a great time to make new friends.

A few things to add to adpiucf's list:
Bandaids in various sizes
Clear nail polish, the duct tape of recruitment
Breath mints or strips
Make sure that you take care of yourself during recruitment. It's hectic and you have a big responsibility. Drink lots of water, remember to eat, wear comfortable shoes.

in addition to band aids, purchase some mole skin-it really helps keep a blister from getting any worse, and if applied early enough can prevent one from developing. you can find it in the dr.scholl's section of the drug store. you will need some scissors to cut the mole skin to the right shape and size. some sunscreen might be helpful.

Trash bags! Odd, I know, but they came in very handy this past rush. We had an absolute downpour one of the days and girls were using trashbags to keep themselves dry. If it looks like rain, bring some or remind girls to bring umbrellas. Those poor things, instead of offering them refreshments, we gave them towels to pat themselves down.

The little papers that blot sweat are a god send (its humid here).
Be prepared for someone to cry... tissue is always handy for terminals.
And Don't forget to have fun.

Coffee filters work wonders for blotting sweat without removing makeup! When I went through recruitment, our Rho Gammas were handing them out left and right.
