Greetings, All. Since it's African-American History Month, lots of students are required to do reports and stuff. My god-daughter asked me to go on-line for her and get some information about Dr. and Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr. because she has no immediate access to a computer. I decided to head to the King Center website to see if there was an official Dr. King site. I couldn't find one, so I did a search, and found martinlutherking.org. I was glad, until I went to the site. I was baffled at first, then offended and disgusted. This site was created by white racists, determined to spit on the grave of a great man. They said horrible things about him--everything from accusing him of drinking and beating prostitutes (white and black) the day before his was killed, to using SCLC monies to finance his communist efforts. These idiots even have a message board, with threads entitled, i hate black people, and one on Coretta Scott King, where one person posted "I wish I could go to her funeral, so I can spit on her." There was even an Asian person declaring their dislike for our people.
This is not to say that I'm ignorant to the fact that racism still exists. I live in the real world. I guess what's got me so upset is that I'm still a little sad about Mrs. King's passing, it's the month in which we acknowledge and celebrate the history of and about our people, and my children have to live in a world where people still hate out of ignorance. They even went so far as to blame rap music for encouraging blacks to kill whites. Sorry to go on like this, but reading the trash on that site which is using the name of a man like MLK just turned my stomach. Has anyone else seen this site?
