Recolonization
Sisters,
My chapter of ADPi (Eta Sigma at San Diego State University) was closed a few weeks after my initiation last spring.
Could anyone give me some information on how I could get ADPi back on campus? I know nothing about the process.

Sweetie, I feel you're pain, because my chapter, Delta Gamma, was closed in May as well. But with that being said, unfortunately (and I don't say this to be mean) don't expect SDSU to be recolonized (if they do recolonize) anytime soon.
As of right now (being I'm not an IO or on Grand Counil or in EO), DG is the only chapter I know of that is definately going to be recolonized (I'm sure there might be others that they are thinking about but like I said I don't know them). And as for DG, we won't start doing anything until like 2008 (when I say that I'm talking "rushing" girls, because we are already doing stuff to get funds together to get the house looking good) and we will be officially back in 2009 (I believe for formal recruitment that fall).
Recolonization takes time and closed chapters really need to be "away" from the campus for a period of time. Whether it is to let "rumors" die down or let the stigma of being a struggling chapter die away.
Plus, someone please tell me if I'm wrong on this, with recolonization the campus has to be open for colonization in the first place. Then I'm pretty sure it's like any other colonization procedure, we have to present and the campus has to select usfor recolonization.

You are right, Brianna. The campus Panhellenic has to decide they want another chapter on campus first.

May I add a word or two?
Instead of looking at this as the end, you might want to see if you can work as an Advisor or even just volunteer with another chapter. So many chapters do things differently, you may find some new & exciting ideas for when (& if) your chapter does recolonize.
It's like so many other things in life - you may find a new way to reinvent the wheel that would work to your advantage in the future. Just a thought...

That's a great idea honey (helping out with other chapters, because as a collegian I don't think she could be an advisor quite yet ).
I know it feels like it's the end of the world, and I really do b/c I'm going through the exact same thing you are. You just have to keep positive.

Pardon for the forum crash...but I have a Panhellenic question and I'm sure someone here will have the answer.
When a campus opens up for expansion, do they first extend the invitation to sororities who once held chapters there in hopes for a recolonization? Or do they just let the NPCs know "hey, we're open...whoever wants to submit packets can submit packets now.."?

Welcome, OTW. It really just depends on the campus. Some will extend an invite to closed chapters or consider recolonization; on others it is an all-call and the selection process goes from there-- the sororities who then submit interest and are invited to make presentations.

Remember the good times you had at Eta Sigma and all the wonderful friends that you made. Hopefully EO will realize there mistake and in the next few years Eta Sigma will have the opportunity to reopen. I have been looking at it in the positive sceem of things and best of all you have a great diamond.

Thought I'd throw in my knowledge...
Even though the chapter just closed - the campus would have to decide if they're open to (re)colonization.
NPC says that first preference should be given to organizations that have previously had a chapter on campus - but ultimately the campus panhellenic/ local group ultimately makes the decision on what chapter to invite on campus/affiliate with depending on teh situation.
Also - Executive Office isn't the group that decides or makes policy for Alpha Delta Pi - decisions are made by our Grand Council (who are sisters volunteeering their time to ADPi elected at Grand Conventions) based on our bylaws which can be amended at a Grand Convention.
My suggestion would be to join an alumnae association. There are opportunities to be involved with local philanthropic projects or a Ronald McDonald House if it's close - and possibly holding an office or being a committee chair - or if you dont' quite think that's the right place for you - there have been some associations chartered by groups that call themselves "young" alumnae - it all depends on the geographic area and if there are enough sisters to keep a group going.
And to answer the question of can you still join an association even though you're still in college - with the closing of the chapter you are an alumna of ADPi, so yes you can join.
