Ashley Stewart will commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by donating five percent of each sale on Monday, January 16 to the Washington, D.C. National Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Project Foundation. The donation will help fund the creation of a monument in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the National Mall of Washington D.C.
"Customers can shop at any of our 170 Ashley Stewart locations on Monday and know that they are buying more than clothing; they are preserving history, said Ashley Stewart's Vice President and General Merchandise Manager, Marla Minns.
Founded in 1996 the Memorial Project Foundation seeks to raise 100 million dollars. To date they have raised 53 million. This is Ashley Stewart's second year contributing to the memorial project. Last year's donation of $12,000 brought the foundation one-step closer to making the monument a reality.
"The legacy of Dr. King is one that needs to be shared with future generations," said Tia Jackson, Ashley Stewart's Brand Marketing Director. "Being able to contribute to this memorial and share a part of history is an honor."
